Advertisement Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Hi Coach, Take a look here Voigtlander 12mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pelikan1931 Posted September 14, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2007 i just use an LTM adapter on the 12mm Heliar, no IR filter, no coding, also use the zeiss 15mm finder, and if i need level, I would use the cosina one and use a double shoe to house the two. but i tend to leave everything out and just use the lens for street snapshots. sandymc Posted September 14, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2007 Its been discussed extensively on other threads, e.g, here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/28276-12mm-cv.html Sean Reid's also done a lot of work with the 12mm - his site has a lot of good stuff on it. stunsworth Posted September 14, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2007 I think that the shots above show one issue with using a lens as wide as this, and that is how to get an even exposure under certain conditions. Where there's a wide range of brightness it's very easy to get underexposed areas, and if you're not very careful they will include the areas of interest. Guest GuyMancusoPhoto Posted September 14, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 14, 2007 Remember a 12mm will pick up a lot of sky normally, so in scenes like this. It will tend to underexpose. Little trick here, get ready to shoot than tilt the camera down a little than hold shutter at 2nd stop to hold the exposure reading than readjust composition and shoot. My cheating way of using exp. compensation. now you just learned one of my teaching secrets at my workshops, send 10 dollars to paypal. LOL seriously what your doing is taking a more direct reading of the street and not the sky. But be carefull too or you can blow the sky out. This is in A mode

Rogwp Posted September 17, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 17, 2007 Pelikan, I am also interested in this lens. Is it possible to show one of your images as it came out of the camera? What is your workflow? Which software do you use? They are great, by the way. Many thanks, Roger
pelikan1931 Posted September 17, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 17, 2007 Pelikan, I am also interested in this lens. Is it possible to show one of your images as it came out of the camera? What is your workflow? Which software do you use? They are great, by the way. Many thanks, Roger Roger: those pictures are DNG files straight from the M8, converted to JPEG inCapture One LE and downsized in Photoshop, not touched. I set WB to "daylight", which I found to be accurate most of the time in outdoor situation, (the M8 auto WB is the most erratic ones I have seen from a digital camera). Aperture is at f8 most of the time. Scale focus. Proper composition or metering are not on top my priority. I want to make the whole thing as impromptu as possible. I did not use any IR filter, and the lens is not coded. (although I am buying a LT-M8 adapter from Millich and have ordered one 77mm IR from B+W, as I have bought previously the Cosina filter adapter for the lens. I will experiment them later to see if I can extract more fun it this setup) I think the fun of using ultra wide lens is it liberates you from the need to focusing and composing etc. And I intend to keep the workflow also as simple as possible. the lens is somewhat sharper than 15mm heilar that I once ownd, but maybe that 15mm was defective, the 12mm heliar is for sure better made. Rogwp Posted September 17, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 17, 2007 Pelikan, many thanks. I thought that you had corrected the corners at least. What will you code this lens as? Please post more pictures when you get your filter/code. Roger

Please post more pictures when you get your filter/code. Roger when the adapter is back, i will code it as either WATE at 16mm or 18mm, will of course try out all 3 different focal lengths. but even the pictures that came out uncoded and unfiltered look good enough for me.
