mtwo Posted September 14, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some weeks ago I was having problems with my M6, a pre-ttl model, and my old 50 was catching a bit when focusing making it difficult to do any mid distance focusing smoothly. I had heard all the plaudits for various repair sources and decided to try DAG. I sent an e-mail and waited for a response which finally came and gave me a price for repairing both. I made out a check and sent both lens and camera to this guy on 23 July by USPS. I foolishly only bought insurance on the package. I should also have bought delivery confirmation. I have contacted this person several times to see if he even received my camera and lens and so far have heard nothing in return. I am at the point of going to the Post Office and filing a claim to see if that will produce an answer. All I want to know is when I might expect to see my camera back or, at the very least, whether this guy ever got it. I know all about busy but I find this lack of any kind of communication inexcusable. After all this sad story I wonder if anyone else is having similar problems. Misery loves company, I guess. harmsr Posted September 14, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2007 Your experience with Don is rare if not unheard of. His phone number is on his website, why don't you call him. Don, has done work for me several times. He has always communicated well, the work has been performed very well, & I have never had a problem. k_g_wolf ✝ Posted September 14, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2007 LEICA- things can take time. In case you have send it insured - which you seem to have - you are on the safe side. Be patient, you will hear from your repairer soon. DAG is most likely working on cameras and dislikes to exchange e-mails. Only eats up life ... Please post here when you got any news about your camera, if you can. Best
Craftsman Posted September 14, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 14, 2007 I think you'll have better luck if you call him. He doesn't respond to emails well and he's more likely to get to your repairs if you remind him when you sent it in. He's always busy.
Xavier Ray Posted September 14, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2007 Don can be hard to reach by email some times. At the moment he's slammed with work. I spoke with him about my asph 50 summilux during the past two days both by email and phone. Just give him a call if you're concerned. he's a first rate guy and does the best of work. Unfotunately he could'nt repair my asph 50 and has shipped it back. Don thinks my 50 was manufactured wrong and must go back to leica to replace the focusing assembly. mtwo Posted September 28, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted September 28, 2007 Since I registered a complaint about DAG Repair service a couple of weeks ago I am obligated to report a satisfactory conclusion to this tale. A week ago today I received an e-mail advising my camera and lens had been overhauled and were being shipped back. That, to be clear about this, was on 21 Sept. The UPS main brought me a box today with both camera and lens. UPS is not speedy. The camera wind-on is smoother as is focus on the lens. The lens is also far cleaner than it has ever been (I am a reluctant lens cleaner). The viewfinder is also brigher the focus patch is clearer as are the frame lines. With all that in mind it did take better than two months to do this job and communication from the repair source was exactly zero up till it was time to ship. When it comes time to do this again it will not be with DAG Repair. My advice, if you do use DAG, get delivery confirmation on whatever you send. Then take your patience pill. tobey bilek Posted October 4, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) He works like a dog and is so good he is swamped. He sends it back working perfectly and you complain it took a bit of time. Send it to Leica New Jersey and wait 4 months and 1/2 the time you have to send it back to be rerepaired. Then there is the local hammer mechanic.
