Also, any tips on easy steps to avoid vertical adjustment problems in the future? You have to take the red dot off. Look for a post by Mark Norton on taking a M8 apart. It shows the verticle adjustment system very well. It is a U or L shaped bar with a U near the midldle of it and that bar is around, overlapping, another bar that has a hole in it. The proper tool to use to make the adjustment has a round section with a pin protruding from it that is off center. The pin goes in the hole and the round section fits in the U slot on the front bar. You turn the tool and it moves the front bar up or down, depending on which way you turn it. My first M8 had a slight verticle allignment problem but it wasn't bad enough to worry about, that is for me. The replacement for my fist unit is spot on, and so is the second one I bought. I did take the red dot off the black M8, the second one I bought, and the two bars where locked together with some type of lacquer. Once you get it adjusted take some nail polish and dab it on both bars so they lock together and don't move anymore.
