PG Black nickel Posted June 17, 2022 Share #1  Posted June 17, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) This camera is for sale in a future auction, given the estimate of 18 to 20,000 euros it is not within my means, although I would like as a collector to have this type of camera in my shop window. But the subject is different, I noticed the strange coating of this M3 which does not seem to me to be vulcanit, maybe leather, although it does not look very natural. Maybe the owner could have replaced the vulcanit that was too degraded. But this revetemenyt seems to fit so well with this device it could have been made at the factory. Wear could have an effect but when you look closely there is no wear. I would need to be able to get my hands on it, unfortunately this auction house is 500 km away from me and I would not be able to get there. The question is has anyone seen this type of coating ? As Leica can no longer repair the original vulvanite, they will use what they use for their current MP and M-A cameras (or have used for the previous M6 an M7 cameras). When I sent my M3 to Leica for CLA some years ago, they applied a replacement material to the back door of my M3 which looked almost exactly like the original vulcanite. The rest of the vulcanite covering was still intact, so nothing was changed there, but I am sure Leica could recover the entire M3 body which that replacement material, if need be.
