Laidley Posted June 8, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the aperture on the Q series purely mechanical like an M lens or is it electronic like the Sigma contemporary prime lenses? One of the benefits of using my M glass on the SL series and other cameras is the direct dof feed back and its not something I'd really be willing to give up at this point. I realize that AF generally needs the aperture to be wide open to work correctly so it's probably not mechanical on the Q but figured I'd ask. Thanks. Advertisement Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 Hi Laidley, Take a look here Q2 aperture question before I pull the trigger.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stuart Richardson Posted June 8, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2022 (edited) It is electronic. It remains open aperture but stops down when you half press the shutter, but it will hold the aperture that you first half pressed if you turn the ring while half pressing the shutter. In other words, if you want DOF preview, you have to half press each time you change aperture to get it to refresh the preview. In practice, it means that evaluating DOF by turning the aperture ring quickly back and forth is not practical. There might be a setting that affects this, but I will check. If the basic question is whether it acts like a manual iris, the answer is no. Edited June 8, 2022 by Stuart Richardson
