Ken Chuang Posted June 5, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 5, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I realised a “bug” with the Q2. I have set the crop button at the rear for AE-L (auto exposure lock). My habit of taking a photo is to find the right exposure before I focus and compose my picture. However the AE-L fails to lock if you perform a manual focusing. This should not be the case as it is AE-L and not AF-L. For me I have my camera setting to spot focus and spot exposure. So typically I will point around the subject to find a nice exposure and press the AE-L, then I will focus by pointing at the focus point followed by half pressed shutter to lock the focus as well. Then I will compose the picture before a fully depress the shutter to take the photo. Sometimes I do want to confirm my focus by doing it manually (example of such instance will be bird in cage or subject thru a fence). However with this bug I am not able to do so. Also, the AE-L do not stay on for the next photo. Which is irritating as you may want to take a couple of pictures with the same exposure. Hopefully Leica can fix this or provide an option. Advertisement Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 Hi Ken Chuang, Take a look here AE-L issues. It "unlocks" with manual focusing, and it does not stay lock for the next shot.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
clasami Posted June 7, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 7, 2022 Seems like Leica missed that. Hopefully, it will be fixed in a firmware update. Until then, I am using aperture priority with Auto ISO and adjust exposure for the target with the EV dial. Then I lock focus, recompose and take the shot. Mikael_L Posted June 8, 2022 Share #3 Posted June 8, 2022 Yes, I've noticed this as well as I use the crop button for AE-L in the way you do while I would like it to stay locked for as long I want it to. This is somehow strange that Leica didn't give the user an option to have it either way (locked for a single shot/one burst of shots or to to just stay locked until you unlock that function/setting). With the latest firmware version (2.0 as I have the Q2 Monochrom) and it's new highlight-weighted metering mode combined with a set exposure compensation is the way I workaround the issue to stay locked with a good exposure.
