Braaamer Posted May 21, 2022 Share #1  Posted May 21, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I just completed my first roll of T-Max400 with my first Leica (M3) and scanned 16 bit TIFFs using a Nikon Coolscan V. It would be great if someone here would kindly send me a T-Max400 16 bit TIFF scan from their images for comparison. I would just be interested in comparing grain, tonality etc. Thanks in advance! I guess we could get this arranged through email with Maildrop, Dropbox or Wetransfer. Best regards, Erik
Advertisement Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Hi Braaamer, Take a look here 16 bit TIFF scan from Kodak T-Max400. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Braaamer Posted May 21, 2022 Author Share #2  Posted May 21, 2022 I should mention that the file should be the original, possibly rather flat TIFF before any further adjustments in image editing software.
Doc Henry Posted May 22, 2022 Share #3  Posted May 22, 2022 (edited)  like nobody answers you since yesterday .... according to my fifteen years of scanning , I advise you to scan in TIFF as you do , in 14 Bits with Nikon Scan V or in 16 bits with Nikon CS5000 (I have both scans) The size is larger (> 118 MP each picture) and it's useful for archiving on a Hard Disk > black grey palette in B&W or color palette will be richer ... never scan in compressed JPEG . Sorry but we can't post here in TIFF and it's too big ... I want to do it with a USB key and send you the USB key by post but I don't really see the point what you want to do with it ? https://howtoscan.ca/scanning-tips/tiff-vs-jpeg-scans.php Best Henry All my pictures posted in the thread below are scanned in TIFF (size each picture = around 120 MP) posted in compressed JPEG witn "No correction" I scan in linear curve . I only use Free Nikon Factory software > No Vuescan and No Silverfast or another paying software with update also paying I develop myself in my homelab color and B&W film from a decade.   Edited May 22, 2022 by Doc Henry

Doc Henry Posted May 22, 2022 Share #5  Posted May 22, 2022 (edited) ...  to follow up on what Frame-it said , Kodak TX 400 is more grainy than TMax 400 IMHO Edited May 22, 2022 by Doc Henry
Braaamer Posted May 22, 2022 Author Share #6  Posted May 22, 2022 Thanks, chaps, I fully understand that there won’t be any possibility for me to really compare anything. But I would get a general impression. T-Max400 being finer grain than TriX400 is also my understanding. Thanks, Don Henry, I will have a look at your jpgs in the thread you linked to. If these are based on linear scans without any further post-processing, it will likely serve my purpose.
