Trying to install Q2M firmware 2.0: I reformatted SD card in camera, plugged the reformatted SD into card reader (as I usually do to transfer files), downloaded the "Q@M_20_.lfu" file from the Leica website onto my computer. So far so good.

So I now have the icon for the "Q@M_20_.lfu" file on my Mac desktop and the "LEICA Q2M" icon of my freshly reformatted SD card on my desktop.

But I am not allowed to drag the firmware file onto the SD card--I get a circle with a slash through it when I try to do so and the firmware file basically just bounces away from the SD card icon. As the screen shot below shows, so close but so far away...

And, no, there is no slider on the side of my SD card that is in a locked position. And I've tried with 2 different freshly reformatted SD cards....

So what's the problem? I never had this issue doing many many Fuji firmware updates.

If the card it's not locked, it's probably about the permissions of the 'external drive'. Also because when you plug a SD card on a Mac, you should see the icon below, and not the one you see.

Thanks for the reply--I think it did/does have something to do w/ permissions, but before hassling with that I downloaded the firmware file on an older Mac laptop, plugged the same freshly formatted SD card into it and found that I had no problem loading the firmware file onto it. So I've now updated my camera and will decide later whether I want to try to figure out what went wrong on our Mac desktop.

When I mount a sd-card on my iMac the icon always looks like the one in @sdvs post. With the one difference: I can draw the update file onto the sd-card without problems. Cards formatted in my Leicas.

Same with my MacBook Pro. The icon on my desktop looks like SDV’s, and can copy the firmware update easily.
