Summilux 80mm R ROM 3736898 on A7
Record cover, typography not done by me.
Post process was not refined. Still had a week left before the deadline,
but the client and label, wanted It lie this, almost out of camera.
I won't argue, client is king ...

I bought this very expensive lens, for me then. For 1500 euro's,
I was deciding between the 85L 1.2 Canon 1700 euro then,
or this one, looking for a portrait lens. It was around the time
Leica had an M8 that was shooting black purple and claimed full frame on M
couldn't be done. Bad times for Leica. And it was the mintest, best copy I could find.

Never clicked with it, finding Super bokeh portraits being super boring.
And seemed I prefered shooting portraits with 55 - 45, bassically 50's,
for portrait at f2 or 2.8.
So never used It, until the lockdown, had to cancel the planned cover,
with professional model, stylist etc ... and improvise something.

Starting to make still lives with my assistent in my appartment.
Think we made over 50 fake cocktails.
I rediscovered the Summilux, as for product 50's were no good,
something 75mm - 100mm is prefered. 50's being a bit to nerveus.
I didn't shoot Medium Format, because of time.

When we were so sick of It, I took this shot, and wow I think the Summilux is crazy.
I was only working and the "sculpture" and lighing.
The blurred fabric was what I would be thinking of using.
The "blue sky" is wooding chair, the color pallet I had in mind was "Lawrance Of Arabia".
This shows how great this lens can be, shot at f2 or f2.8.
Where the lens changes from a less sharp more dreamy super Bokeh machine
and goes crazy in super sharp 3D color pop, still blurring the chair amazing.
the harmony is beautfull. It's way to sharp, but gets away with it,
( the FE 35mm 2.8 and 55mm 1.8 Sony Zeiss don't do that,
still very good glass, If you need more clinical )
because of how It draws, the character.
Other Zeiss do that excellent, 21mm 2.8, 25mm said to be good, ZM 35 1.4,
Makro Planar 50 and 100 especially. The Contax G glass.

A shot like that, an M lens can't do that, It can't focus so close.
The Summilux 75mm 1.4 was not for sale at the time,
the new M', I don't care about those.
As long as they don't pay me 10.000 - 20.000 euro's for an album cover,
and they don't. Music is the least interesting, very demanding, pay cheap,
unless you are working for Beyonce or something ...
and even the ridicules expensive new 75mm could not make that shot.

That cover finally, payed the Summilux back.
Also find a place for It, reconnected with my R lenses,
or Leica glass, just bought a Summarit 50mm 1.5.
That I'm in love with at the moment.
For whene my Voiglanders or Zeiss glass get's to sharp.
And saying fuck It, mint condition Leica R lenses costing a car now.
They will be used again, and could be unminted ... so be It.
Still It won't leave the studio/house. To heavy. 35 and 50 crons probably will.
As does the Summarit. I didn't buy a mint one, so I could use It.
But glass is stellar.

I usually shoot Medium Format.
It's cheaper than Leica, It makes a lot more money.

Still this lens is ace.
