dkCambridgeshire Posted April 26, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Because it's fairly easy to focus by scale when using wide angle lenses on a rangefinder camera ... and because I'm trying to conserve £$€ by not buying a new or s/h wide angle M lens(es) ... decided to try existing Nikkor 28/2.8 AIS lens on my M9 via an URTH Nikon F to Leica M adapter. Initial results using two different adapters proved that the lens' infinity setting is inaccurate at f8 ... so then bracketed the focus setting to ascertain required adjustment. Optimum infinity setting is with the LHS of the lens focus ring's ∞ symbol lined up to the lens' IR focus dot ... but I'll check same by using the lens on my SL601 with magnified live view ... and then add a focus mark to the lens using a fine Staedtler pen. Nikkor 28/2.8 AIS is one of the best Nikkor 28mm manual focus lenses with no noticeable distortion ... this image taken at f8 on a cloudy day. The 28mm frame line was lined up with the verticals of the viewfinder image to avoid distortion. Lens needs a hood; I'll modify an old wide angle hood by cutting out part of the hood's front/side. dkCambridgeshire Posted May 1, 2022 Author Share #2 Posted May 1, 2022 (edited) Continuing legacy wide angle lens experiment with the M9 using same scene / buildings / camera position ... but today using Leica R 19mm Mk II with a Novoflex R to M adapter ... lens set to f8 and focus set to 1.5m ... for which DOF = 0.8m to ∞. ... Happy with results i.e no barrel / pin cushion distortion visible and verticals / horizontals ok ... but have no idea exactly what is included when roughly composing using the 28mm frame lines ie aligning same to verticals ... to prevent image showing converging / diverging verticals. Now considering acquiring a Zeiss 18mm finder ... could be a cost effective accessory enabling ultrawide imaging on the M9 using existing R 19mm Mk II Welcome, dear visitor!
