spylaw4 Posted November 19, 2007 Share #66 Posted November 19, 2007 Has anyone in the UK recently got their Digilux 2 back? Mine's been away for 2 weeks so far, and I'm wondering what the current turnaround time is. A week or so ago I was quoted 8 weeks turn round time. j_w_davies Posted November 19, 2007 Share #67 Posted November 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brian As I'm now up to week 5, and I was quoted 5 to 8 weeks originally, I gave Milton Keynes a ring this morning to check on progress. At they moment they haven't got any sensors in stock in Germany, so there's a bit of an hiatus. But was told that I should get the camera back in the beginning of December. Which will be 8 - 9 weeks after it went in.
Peyton Hoge Posted November 19, 2007 Share #68 Posted November 19, 2007 I got mine back from NJ after almost 4 months. I was quoted 4 to 5 weeks. Everyone needs to be patient.
Scott Packard Posted November 20, 2007 Share #69 Posted November 20, 2007 I'm guessing 4 months from NJ too. I sent in beginning of October and received a written estimate of 4-5 weeks. I phoned this morning and a lady said end of January. When I asked about the original, written estimate she replied "That was a lie...parts are on backorder." jedperkins Posted May 8, 2008 Share #73 Posted May 8, 2008 Looks like exactly the same that happened to me, some more scratches on the bottom and a little dust under the front element, (I have pictures to prove it.), but what is worst is that my D/2 is back to Solms for the THIRD time in a row. When it came back first it had a big blob of dust on the new sensor, so it went back to Germany. Just last week it came back again, and this time it had a couple evident streaks on the sensor, possibly left by the cleaning of it, so it's back for the third time. Each round-trip took about 6 weeks, and looks like taking its toll on the camera, and now just hoping this will be the last time. To say I'm pretty disappointed by the level of this service is just a plain understatement. So, from my experience, I suggest to anybody getting it back with the new sensor, to check it against a white sheet of paper with the f/stop closed to 11, if something wrong you'll see right on the display as soon as you half-press the shutter. AS I just bought my D2 off eBay. I was fortunate enough to find one that was fresh back from a sensor replacement. Or at least I thought I was fortunate until I noticed two blobs In the viewfinder with the lens stopped down. Yep, dust on the new sensor! It is noticeable from f/11 down to f4.5. Lower (higher?) than that and it fades away. I took some reference test shots against a white piece of paper that I will use to help me locate the blobs so I can eliminate them during post processing. I will also probably try and keep my shots to f/4 or lower when possible until I get this resolved. I am going to contact Leica and see if they will repair free of charge since the dust must be the result of the sensor replacement, but I am not confident. In the meantime I am going to take the camera to the Caribbean next week and just enjoy it. Let's hope the new sensor doesn't fail in the heat and humidity At least I got a good deal on the purchase. $575 for the camera, and it is in quite good shape. Not cosmetically perfect, but not too bad. This is my first post, btw, and my first Leica camera. I do own two sets of Leica binoculars. I am already drooling over the idea of getting an M8, but I thought I would first dip my toe in the water with the D2. I own two Pentax K10D cameras, and probably 12 lenses. I want to simplify my photography with a small kit of 2 or 3 lenses (ok, maybe 4 ), and a small body. More importantly, I wait to get back to the process of taking photographs, and stop firing off pictures on a motorized camera, with auto everything. Thanks for taking the time to read this. lemalk Posted May 8, 2008 Share #74 Posted May 8, 2008 Hi Jed - Welcome to the forum. "This is my first Leica camera" is heard here much more than "This is my LAST Leica camera" and with good reason - they're amazing tools. That being said, it's a slippery slope - soon you'll find the way to "pick up" another Leica body/lens...and then another.... Best of luck - and please do post your shots with the new (to you) D2. k_g_wolf ✝ Posted May 8, 2008 Share #75 Posted May 8, 2008 >> Jed that´s really a good bargain for a DIGILUX 2- camera. Enjoy your new toy ! Round here - Euroland that is - you pay pretty much more for it. I will have a closer look at my DIGILUX 2 which came back from the S.-hospital some weeks ago. It never occured to me to look for those specs ... Have a safe journey. Best

mark_a_h Posted May 16, 2008 Share #77 Posted May 16, 2008 i have searched but do not see the actual thread that describes what tos do. In the US do we just send to NJ Leica? Yes, but e-mail Leica's service dept. first. The address is on their website. Describe the problem you're having with the camera (the indications that the sensor has failed). Tell them your serial number, name, address and that you want to have the sensor replaced under the extended warranty for this situation. They should get back to you and tell you to send it in. They may also need to get a copy of your bill of sale for the camera.
