How many of you use the ETF (either Leica or Olympus VF2) on your X2? I really like the view I get from the ETF and how I can easily frame an image. I keep the ETF attached to the camera unless I am using the case. Walking around town shooting is no problem with the added weight and size. Gees...weight wise all told it must be only 15 ounces, if that... This is one nice camera.

Hi Jim,

I have an X1 with the bright line finder, an X2 and X-Vario with the ETF and recently picked up a typ113 which I used with the Brightline until if found a Leica 020 finder for it. I find that it makes the camera more usable as you are not worrying about glare off of the rear screen. I have put the large Olympus eyecup on the X-2 and X-Vario finders.

Glad to see you are enjoying the X2!!!!

Dave

I don't have X2 but have both EVF and OVF for my X Typ 113. I guess experience goes same as X2 anyways.

For mirrorless camera, EVF is kind of essential tool to work with for using its full functionality, but I personally figured out OVF is actually easier to frame. It is just hard to know if I focused the shot correctly or not. When I had X-E, I used Olympus VF-2 and it worked pretty well since I missed focus often when I only used the screen. 1.4 million dots of Olympus EVF screen is much better to check focus than 230k dots screen on camera body.

  • Leica Visoflex Typ 020 - Pros/Provide full information from camera screen, AF compatibility.   Cons/sluggish, battery killer, add weight.
  • Leica 36mm Brightline - Pros/fast and intuitive framing, clear vision, battery saver, visually more appealing.   Cons/hit and miss creator, can't do manual focus

  • 2 months later...

Spent much of the summer using my OM-1 film...but tonight will pick back up my X-2 and given I am in somewhat evening / night use, I might not use the Olympus VF2 viewfinder since the screen is more than light for evening use (not day use). enjoy
