Ed Moore Posted April 2, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, new Q2M owner here. I'm trying to work out from photos if the thumbscrew on the official Leica handgrip would still turn (and therefore allow the grip to be removed from the camera) if there was a tripod plate fitted to the adjacent thread? I'm hoping to keep a Peak Design baseplate on the bottom of the grip so I can use it with their Capture Clip, but bit worried the plate will partly cover the handgrip thumbscrew and potentially prevent it from turning. But perhaps the thumbscrew is ever so slightly recessed from the bottom face of the handgrip? I don't really want to have to remove the tripod plate AND the baseplate every time I want to get to the battery or SD card. Anyone have this combination and can advise? Pelu2010 Posted April 3, 2022 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2022 After taking a look (you really need to check this in a store!) I can tell you this won’t work. i feel fine with this: JJC Arca-Typ camera handgrip for Leica Q2. i can use it on my tripod and I can add the peak design. i would love if I could use the arca Swiss in the peak design holder. that would be nice. hope this helps peter
Marc B-C Posted April 4, 2022 Share #3 Posted April 4, 2022 I am not sure if this helps, but I have what I now believe to be the perfect combination of tripod and grip for my Q2. I have the following tripod (which I have had for 15 years or so) https://www.feisol.eu/product/feisol-traveler-tripod-ct-3441sb-rapid-with-cb-30d-ball-head/?lang=en which combined with the JJC HG-Q2 grip (per @Pelu2010) allows access to both battery and card slot whilst having a built in Arca Swiss mount. This slips into the head with the Feisol in a nano second. https://www.amazon.com/Release-Aluminum-Compatible-Replaces-handgrip/dp/B0893T9C8D/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 I usually use the Leica grip due to OCD but if I am going to use a tripod, the above is the combination I prefer. Despite the age of the tripod, I see no reason to change it. Superbly built.
Pelu2010 Posted April 4, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 4, 2022 This grip lets you change battery sd card and has an arca Swiss dovetail mount. And it does not look cheap. Welcome, dear visitor! Ed Moore Posted April 6, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted April 6, 2022 Hey all, happy to report for the benefit of anyone finding this thread that it does in fact work… the thumb screw to remove the grip still turns even with the capture clip baseplate screwed in permanently.
