With the Q2M I want to focus on B&W (obviously). It seems to me I made the right decision cause the files are so much better to work on in post than with files converted from color. Yet, there are images where color is essentail for the image. For those instances I was wondering which camera would be a good match for the Q2M. It needed to be small, yet capable of high qualtiy output. At first, I have been considering a plain Q2. But the 35mm on a color version I found to be a bit limiting (in terms of noise at higher ISO and cropability). A nice little standard zoom would have been good, too. And the ability to use wider and longer lenses. Looking at my Fuji cameras, I didn't like their kit zooms (they are not bad, but also nothing to write home about). The 16-55f2.8 is just too big and heavy.

Then I did some research on the Sony 28-60f4-5.6 zoom that was launched with the a7c. Most if not all reviews were positive. That lens and the a7c make a small, yet powerful combo. Good colors, fast and accurate AF. Ordered a used zoom from MPB - and I must say that I am surprised. Except for 28mm at the very edges, the lens returns sharp and crisp images at any aperture. It is small, light and inexpensive. This and the a7c will be my color camera that I take along with the Q2M, and if needed, I can always add the Voigtländer 21f3.5 and the Sigma 90f2.8C for a very nice, yet small kit.

One happy camper here.

My favorite pairing with my Q2M is my iPhone 12 Pro Max.  I already have it with me and the image quality is satisfactory.

If you're after a dedicated camera, I suggest the Ricoh GR III.

My Google Pixel 6 Pro also does a decent job. But in post, one quickly faces the limits of the small format. Had the Fuji x100v for a while, but felt it didn't offer me much over my X-E3 and X-E4. Ricoh GR III, I am afraid, would be similar.

I originally had a new Q2, never bonded with it, then sold it less than a year later.  In the interim year between that and the release of the Q2M I became comfortable with 28mm and so loved my M10M that I picked up the Q2M.  A little later I added the X100V for fun and as a compact camera that I wouldn’t be too sad over if it got wrecked while on the icy streets of Moscow.  Well, that one got sold as I found a ridiculous deal on a well-used Q2.  So for me the ideal color companion to the Q2M is not surprisingly the Q2.  It only took a couple of years and waaaaaay too much money spent to figure that out!

Enjoy your kit!
