1stLeica Posted March 23, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received a Sigma 18-50mm. Still investigating the various settings on the CL I got last month. So, forgetting for the moment the actual merits, if any, of the Digital Zoom option… With the 18-50 attached and the Digital Zoom selected, the cropped frame lines (1.3 or 1.7 – makes no difference) only appear when the lens is zoomed to the 50mm setting. Back off the least amount from 50mm and the frame lines disappear. The image captured shows the effect of the Digital Zoom (cropped for JPG, full image with crop lines for DNG) only when the lens is at 50mm, agreeing with what is shown in the viewfinder. Only other lens I have is the 18mm Elmarit TL which does show the Digital Zoom cropped frame lines when the option is selected. So I have a 18-50mm, 65mm & 85mm lens with nothing between 50 & 65, nor between 65 & 85. Is this how the Digital Zoom is supposed to work? Thanks much. Advertisement Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Hi 1stLeica, Take a look here Digital Zoom only at max zoom of lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nicci78 Posted March 23, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2022 (edited) Yes. Only at max zoom position. Which is perfectly logical. I found that crop mode works better with Leica TL or SL lenses (with crazy sharp center) Not so much with Sigma lenses. For exemple my TL 18-56mm cropped at 150mm equivalent is way better than my Sigma 56mm DG DN at 150mm crop. IQ wise. Crop mode were terrible with various Voigtländer VM lenses too.
