Franka373 Posted March 10, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone have a preference for landscape photos on a wide angle M lens? 21, 28? I have the 28 Summilux but read it’s not best at longer distances? 21 SEM? Thanks for your help.

Gobert Posted March 10, 2022 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2022 I would prefer the WATE.
wda Posted March 10, 2022 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2022 I rarely use a wide-angle lens for landscapes. It is quite difficult to find foreground and near distance interest in an expansive landscape. You usually finish up with lots of sky, sea or land. The grandeur of mountains is lost. Very challenging.

If yes, be happy and keep using that lens. I have not used a 28mm on an M, if for no other reason that since i aim wearing glasses, seing the 28 mm viewfinder frame is al but impossible. I did use a 21 mm, and now have the WATE. As to quality, it is almost impossible to find a bad lens, especially when you factor in the size of your prints; and if you do not print, the image does not exist
Tailwagger Posted March 10, 2022 Share #6 Posted March 10, 2022 Landscape is a pretty broad term. I'm not sure that focal length in the end is as important as rendering, CA, etc. In that regards the 28 'lux is a double edged sword. One one hand it has a certain cinematic quality about it, but on the other CA isn't its strong suit. I can't speak from direct experience as I don't own it, (I have the aforementioned 'lux and a V3 Elmarit) but if acuity is your thing and 28mm is your focal length, IMO, the current Elmarit is probably the best bet and cost effective... at least from a Leica PoV... as well.
Franka373 Posted March 10, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted March 10, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I haven't used the 28 Summilux for landscape yet. It just anecdotal for what I have read about the lens. It's better at shorter distances. But I could be wrong. It is an amazing lens and I haven't experienced CA yet. I prefer the 28 filed of view and I also use longer lenses for landscape. I am going to be a on trip where mountains will be the typical view and was going to see what I can do with a wide lens. I will look into the 21 SEM.
Dennis Posted March 10, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 10, 2022 (edited) I would say 28 Elmarit-M Asph (current) or 21SEM You can't go wrong! But are outstanding lenses, very sharp corner to corner. A must have 🙂 Edited March 10, 2022 by Dennis
