Advertisement Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Hi HpS, Take a look here Image Specs with the 1:1 Format on the D-Lux 7?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted March 10, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2022 If you look at the metadata in your processor, you will see file dimensions and size. The latter will vary, depending upon your subject.
HpS Posted March 11, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted March 11, 2022 Thanks wda. I realise my question was vague. I was under impression that on D-Lux 7 all formats including 1:1 would have the save MP size. But I see it is not so. On the 1:1 they are only 12 MP as opposed to the 17 MP which was being narrated. Unless I missed any Fine Print!!

Unless I missed any Fine Print!! That is right. Some alternatives are cropped and use a smaller part of the sensor area. But 12 MP is very usable, for many purposes. Geoff777 Posted March 15, 2022 Share #5 Posted March 15, 2022 The 4:3 format uses most of the sensor and gives the highest resolution.

Unless I missed any Fine Print!! Go to this review page from dpreview for the Panasonic LX-100 II (the camera the D-Lux 7 is based on). https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-dc-lx100-ii/2 The second image shows how each format is cropped from the full 20-Mpixel sensor area. Hover your cursor over the format labels at the bottom of the image to see each format (area of the sensor used, and pixel dimensions - e.g. 3552 x 3552 for "1:1" The field of view (How wideangle the lens renders across the diagonal of the format) is consistent for the rectangular formats - they all just fit into the image circle of the lens. They provide Mpixel areas of about: 4:3 - 16.8 Mpixels 3:2 - 16.0 Mpixels 16:9 - 15 Mpixels For whatever technical reason, the 1:1 format is actually cropped twice - first to the 17 Mpixel 4:3 format, and then again to the 1:1 format. For about 12.5 Mpixels. The "fine print" describing the formats' pixel dimensions appears in a table in Section 10 (Using Menu Functions, p. 167) of the D-Lux 7 manual.

My D Lux-7 Manual (Instructions) booklet is only 164 pages in all, which includes 3 languages German, English and French. Adan, thanks for your explanation above. Adan, thanks for your explanation above. That manual doesn't sound right. My PDF version, all English, runs to 294 pages. Here's the link to Leica's download site: https://leica-camera.com/en-MY/photography/cameras/d-lux/d-lux-7-black/downloads It's 7.6Mb ( I could have just attached it here, but too big!) You are right. The link you sent has 272 pgs. I shall sit down and read this. Thank you. The Instructions booklet with me is the one I got in the box!
