R5--R6--R7

Ich habe bereits eine R4 in bestem Zustand -optisch und technisch- und möchte gerne meinen Bestand erweitern, was wäre von euch aus als gute Gebraucht zu empfehlen .

Einige von euch haben hier sicher eine große Erfahrung auch mit den ev. Macken auf die man beim Kauf einer R5-R6-oder R7 aufpassen sollte.

How about the R7, which is a highly underrated camera, which is compact and has many advanced modes and compatible with most R series lenses; the R6.2 is a purely mechanical SLR and a nice piece of engineering - also don't forget the R8 and 9, which are compatible with the DMR digital back and are some of the most advanced film cameras that you can get.

If you look in the other direction, you might consider the original SL and SL 2 which have excellent viewfinders and work well with most of the excellent R lenses.

I can only give you my limited experience. I've read a great deal about the automated R series cameras, but a friend sold me his R6.2.  The R6.2 along with the earlier fully mechanical R6  is probably the best of the lot according to some.  I've also read that the R7 is the most advanced and desireable but I'm not a big fan of computerized film cameras. The R5 has most of the features of the R7, but in the smaller body of the R4.  Of the twenty or so film camera bodies I own,  I think that the R6.2 is probably the newest and most "advanced."   I also have a Leicaflex Standard, two SL's and I recently acquired an SL2 that is at the repair shop being overhauled.  I've acquired all of those in the past year. 

As Robert_Parker indicated above,  The Leicaflex bodies offer the mechanical sophistication of the M series rangefinders with a meter and are amazing machines in their own right.

I, for a long time, owned both the R6.2 and the R7 (now, only the R7). From specs point of view, the two cameras differ a lot; from 'making' photos, not so. The R6.2 is smaller (no electronics); it can measure exposure but then, after years of shooting experience, an exposure meter is not that important.

To me, the preference of R6.2 over the R7 was the feeling of being free from failure of the battery. (In the past, I had even returned an M7 and kept the M6 Classic exactly for the same annoying feeling!) But then, the R7 can shoot 'mecahnically' at 1/100 speed and, honesty, I have come to appreciate the elegance of the R7 by now.

Thus, which R body to choose is, I believe, just a personal taste at the end. Or one's style of shooting. But not a choise based on which camera takes better photographs---they are both highly capable. However, consider the fact that Leica has ceased to repair R bodies. That might be the only non-photographic factor to take seriously.
