Ibanez Posted March 4, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all it’s been a while since I have posted here. but I purchased a Leica M5 from eBay. I am very excited to get into the Leica M eco system after some time away. However, the Leica I have purchased has “rangefinder patch” discolouration according to the seller. i haven’t paid for it yet and I think that it’s basalm separation from what my research shows. My apologies for asking a silly question which is often asked, but is this just dirt on the RF patch or is it the dreaded balsam seperation? I know it is complicated to replace the patch and expensive. I purchased the camera for £800. Not s great deal, but it was ok. Sam Welcome, dear visitor! Mute-on Posted March 5, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) It does not look like the rangefinder prism delaminating, but the frameline mask delaminating. This will cause the patch to exhibit fissures or small hairs all over it. The frameline mask holds the frameline grid. I had this on an M4, which was rectified by replacing the frameline mask itself with another from an M4-P. Not overly expensive with a full service, but it was a number of years ago. I don’t know if the same can be offered for an M5. I would pass on the one you have been offered. Edited March 5, 2022 by Mute-on
