Manicouagan1 Posted March 1, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) The only M lens that I do not find corrections for in Lightroom is my 24mm ASPH 2.8. Do any of you reading this note have a set you can post and tell me where to find a set I can load into Lightroom. I got the lens when 24mm corresponded to the widest frame lines in my M8. Now I find I use it as much as any in my 35,50,75,90 mm set.
Advertisement Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 Hi Manicouagan1, Take a look here Lens corrections for 24mm ASPH 2.8 Elmarit usable in Lightroom Classic. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Chuck Albertson Posted March 1, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 1, 2022 I use the profile for the 28mm ASPH 2.8. I seem to recall they have similar optical formulas, but I could be wrong.
adan Posted March 1, 2022 Share #3 Posted March 1, 2022 The 24 Elmarit f/2.8 ASPH had a really oddball optical formula unlike anything else Leica ever made for the M - about a 1-inch/2.5cm gap between the front element and all the rest of the glass. Almost a throwback to 1960s SLR retrofocus designs (e.g. Leica's 1964 R-system 35 f/2.8) - although much sharper and contrastier (the lens for which Erwin Puts first adopted the word "clinical" ). http://www.summilux.net/m_system/images/Elmarit24Asph.pdf Depends on which corrections are needed: vignetting, color vignetting, distortion. Distortion was pretty unique as well - strong (2% barrel)"handlebar moustache" distortion that never fully corrects back to the corners. No perfect match among recent M lenses, although it falls in between the 28mm Summilux (less) and the 24mm Summilux (even more). For vignetting, the 24mm f/3.8 Elmar-M (but also the Summiluxes) is probably a pretty close match. The digital-M in-camera profile should take care of color vignetting problems (and some general vignetting) even before the file is written to the SD card. graphlex Posted March 2, 2022 Share #4 Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) All the same, the 24 Elmarit had its fans, Erwin Puts among them, and Mary Ellen Mark. In 2002, Erwin had this to say: “The Elmarit-M is without a doubt a masterpiece of optical engineering, a landmark design within the Leica M range”. Edited March 2, 2022 by graphlex Add Erwin Puts quotation.
adan Posted March 2, 2022 Share #5 Posted March 2, 2022 I wasn't criticizing the 24mm f/2.8 - just noting it had its own very distinct character, that "other" profiles may not be suitable for as subsitutes.
