HpS Posted February 18, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anybody using D Lux-3 on RAW format? And can advise if it is normal for extended delays while a RAW RAW Format Image is being captured after pressing the shutter? And typically how long should that delay/pause be before one can take the next shot?
Advertisement Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Hi HpS, Take a look here D Lux-3 Raw Capture Delays. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted February 18, 2022 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2022 Technology has moved on, a great deal, since the design of the D Lux 3. You must not expect writing speeds to match those of the D Lux 7 or similar. Make sre you use a formatted card and a fully charged battery. For an approximately decade old camera, expect it to be a little sluggish shooting RAW files. For occasions when speed of writing is important, capture in high quality jpegs. HpS Posted February 21, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) Yes I do understand. By starting this thread I am trying to ascertain what the typical Writing Speed on a D Lux 3 should be, to confirm my camera is not abnormally slow. So, should one format the card say after each days shooting and having downloaded the files? Edited February 21, 2022 by HpS Addendum
wda Posted February 21, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 21, 2022 My procedure is simple and safe. I copy new files from memory card to my desktop PC. I back up that drive to an external hard drive. (Once a week, I backup important data stored internally, onto one of three other external drives ) Finally, I reformat my camera memory card. So the latter only holds my very latest pictures, normally not for long before they are copied to my computer.

I follow a similar process except after downloading images onto my computer I don't reformat my camera card each time.
wda Posted February 22, 2022 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2022 That is a personal decision. But why?
HpS Posted February 22, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted February 22, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Because I didn't know if it is required to be done. Is it?
wda Posted February 22, 2022 Share #8 Posted February 22, 2022 If you have copies of the card's contents elsewhere, there is no need to keep unnecessary clutter on the card. Use the space for new material.
