Hello. I was curious if anyone has ever experienced this "System Error" message before on their Leica SL2.  This came out of the blue on a shoot today. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

My first SL2-S did that within 5 minutes of opening the box and turning it on.  I exchanged it for another one.  So far no issues with this one.  Frustrating as all hell.

Wheels,   It might well be your SD card.  This has been discussed in the forum before.  Here is one link (there are others, just do a search) in the forum to give you ideas how to trouble shoot the issue. Welcome to the forum.  Hope this helps.  r/ Mark

I had the same issue with my SL2. Several other threads discuss how to solve the issue by removing the battery, SD cards, etc. I was able to get the camera working a few times using the tricks in the other threads, but in the end, the camera became very unreliable and one day it just died while showing that 'system error' again and the camera never came back to life again regardless of what I tried.

I spoke to Leica USA about it, and this seems to be a known issue and as best I can tell a problem with the shutter mechanism on the SL2. I have sent the camera to Leica USA and they are doing a repair, they are only charging me for the labor which is good because from the estimate the repair would have been quite expensive otherwise.

However, they estimated a three-month turnaround, and by the third month they sent me an email letting me that they did not have in stock the parts they need for the repair and that the repair would take longer than anticipated. This unexpected delay has caused significant inconvenience, as I am still waiting for the camera without knowing how much longer the repair will take.

It is infuriating because this is an issue that Leica knows about. They should be able to repair it quickly or have done a recall of the affected serial numbers.

I wanted to trade the SL2 for SL3 before the issue came up. However, the more time passes, the more I see the decline in the market value of SL2 and the less value I will get for it; even with the recent Leica CLA whenever they get around to finish the repair.

So my suggestion is that you send it in sooner, rather than later, to get it fixed but be ready for a long, long,  inexusably long wait.
