The original SL (601) is a Rec709 camera. Thus, the footage's colour should look fine in a Rec709 environment (HD SDR) right at the outset, albeit lacking contrast and muted due to the log curve. The SL2, however, uses the Rce2020 colour space. To convert Rec 2020 to Rec 709, you need a Rec2020 to Rec709 colour space transformation LUT, which should be attached at the end of the colour pipeline to make things look right on a conventional HD screen. The question remains, why doesn't the SL2(S) incorporate Rec700 either? The answer is that Rec2020 is a vastly larger colour space that can retain the camera's dynamic range. Other cameras, such as Arri, use their own colour space (Log-C), which is better compatible with Rec709 (but they also provide a proper conversion LUT). Leica chose Rec2020 for convenience, which, as it turns out, isn't the case since many users struggle with the Rec2020 to Rec709 issue. I guess their assumption is that anyone who wants to tackle HDR via L-log is versed enough to deal with Rec2020 and/or would prefer the expanded colour space. You need to be in Live View mode, which is accessed by pressing the leftmost of the two small buttons on top of the camera (between the shutter speed wheel and the camera's back). The right button starts and stops in-camera video recording, but you don't need to use it if you trigger recording on the Atomos. You'll also want to go through the camera's video format/resolution and video settings in the "Camera" menu. The video settings menu is where you set L-Log mode. The resolution menu is where you pick between 4K DCI (4096) and UHD (3840), as well as 24, 25, or 30 fps. Make sure that you are using the latest firmware version (4.0).
