hlockwood Posted September 8, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 8, 2007 Harry, You're ok... It started at 288XXXX Mine is 294XXXX 0.72 VF (Standard) Best, -Ron Thanks, Ron, but there seems to be some dispute as to when it started. For instance, "2885xxx onwards is the flare-free version from factory. Andrew Nemeth gives details in his FAQ." Mine has SN 28847xx. ??? ron110n Posted September 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 8, 2007 Hello Harry, But yours is a 0.85 which is a non standard or custom. For all I know after 288XXXX all M7 non standard VF is "by special order only" by costumer or dealer. Leica mounts MP finders on all special order on all M7. You can tell easy if you're VF is susceptible to flare. Like there is no image at all in the matte focusing screen at a certain angle. Do this occur to your VF? The latest Brightline VF is very bright. I had that experince with my M6, that's why I had it upgraded. Of course it never happened to my M7. Hope this helps, -Ron ________________ Caveman's Gallery Neolithic Artistry

Hope this helps, -Ron ________________ Caveman's Gallery Neolithic Artistry Ron, Thanks for taking the time; I hope I'm not beating a dead horse. But before the a la carte program was introduced, it is my understanding that one could order a VF with either 0.85, 0.72 or 0.6. Mine was not a special order. I just assumed that it was pre a la carte and sat on a shelf, as new, at Classic Connection for some time. I have no way to compare frame-line brightness, but my frame lines are quite bright. And there is no angle at which the matte patch goes blank. (Was your M6 upgrade gratis? If not, how much did it cost?) A call to Leica is in order. Harry Hello Harry, I have to pay for my own on the MP VF upgrade on my M6. As I remember, it was about $300 parts and installation 2 yrs ago. I see that your VF is among the 0.85 production series. Yes it's best to call Leica and they will tell you if your VF is the latest. If not, you already have an idea for the price of an upgrade. Just to let you know... I bought an original Leica VF Magnifier with a fancy jewelry box and it is also about that price. So go for it if you think you need an upgrade cause the price is about normal. Don't loose the receipt, it helps your resale value. Hope this helps, -Ron

I will call Leica tomorrow and report back. BTW, I have the 1.25 magnifier on order, but it seems that Leica production is behind in this and a number of other areas. Price is $250, but no jewel box. peter_n Posted September 9, 2007 Share #13 Posted September 9, 2007 Harry if the camera is under warranty Leica will replace the VF for you free of charge. They did that for one of my M7 bodies earlier this year and took a long time about it but the updated VF is a definite improvement. I have found Robert Fisk at Leica NJ to be helpful. The nr is 1-800-222-0118 and his email is robert.fisk AT leicacamerausa.com.

Guest tummydoc Posted September 10, 2007 Share #15 Posted September 10, 2007 Harry if the camera is under warranty Leica will replace the VF for you free of charge. That should certainly delight the hearts of every-one who paid them $250 to do it when it was first made available
think Posted September 11, 2007 Share #16 Posted September 11, 2007 I tried the warranty route with a .85 M6TTL that still has ~3.5 years of Passport coverage left some time back and was told it wasn't covered. Hopefully you'll have better luck.
