I have just loaded a film in my Nikon S, which is 24x34. The next size up from the original Nikon 1, before they eventually move to 24x36...

Out of curiosity - and apologies for going off-topic - do you know which was the first Nikon rangefinder model to feature the 24x36 format? Reading through Nikon's own historical notes they say about the S2;

"The Nikon S's film image size was 24 x 34mm. The width (on the S2) was increased to approximately 36mm, bringing it close to the world standard." (My emphasis).

The first Nikon rangefinder cameras were 24 x 32, then 24 x 34 with the S, then 24 x 35.5 with the S2 and finally (I believe) 24 x 36 with the SP, S3 and S4.

Thank you very much for the information, Matlock!

For some reason I was under the erroneous impression that the S was 24x36 but, having just had a look through the few books on the Nikon system which I have to hand not one of them noted this detail which I find rather strange!
