They can call it what they like. they seem way too scared about other models eating into M sales, this concept [36MP APS-C Native M mount] of a CL2 could be a limited run or whatever and would prolly be sold out within days
Advertisement Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Hi frame-it, Take a look here Leica Q3 predictions / ruminations. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Another big difference from the Q2 is that the monitor is movable. Back to the interesting stuff*. I would be happy with all of this except the LCD monitor: a mechanical extra that can go wrong and takes up bulk. However....... I see nothing that says the 30 minute limit on video has been removed. It may have been there not for historical regulatory reasons but for heat management reasons. An articulated monitor could take some heat generation away from the body, and so allow long video. We can but hope! I'm all good with the rest, as long as there is enough grunt in the processor to handle better AF (which is the Achilles heel of the Q2). Interesting to see the comment about the battery: I hope a higher capacity battery would work in the SL2-S / SL3 as well. *Not the "M with a L mount", "Q with interchangeable lenses", "SL in M format", "full frame CL" which have been done to death in this forum. Nothing wrong with them, and the threads all show the pent up demand for a small mirrorless ILC from Leica. But I want to keep on track with the Q3! If it's flush to the camera, like 99.9% of all modern screens, how does it take bulk? Besides, the weakest hardware point in all Leica cameras is the rangefinder. Drop your camera and there's a substantial chance it will get misaligned. That is, if it's not misaligned right out of the box, like some users have experienced. Should Leica remove the rangefinder for a more robust EVF too?

Because a movable screen needs two extra layers of body shield? And space for a hinge? I'm not sure where a rangefinder came into the conversation: a M is not weather resistant either, but I'm not expressing an opinion about the M design - we're talking about a Q. My comments and personal preferences are just that. I doubt Leica has taken them into account, and it's a bit late for a redesign now to accommodate them. Nor is it an issue that would sway my decision to buy either way.

Then existing T - CL owners could keep using their TL lenses. Oh wait…Leica cancelled that idea… I would happily consider an SL3 that was significantly lighter and smaller and with the technology upgrades to make it competitive, but I suspect they don’t have the resources even with Panasonic as a partner to make that happen.
