Hey all,

Picked up a mint SL the other day to pair with my M10. Got the M/L adapter as well.

I don’t have any SL glass yet. But looking at the 50 Summicron as a 50 is my favorite focal length.

I don’t like doubling up on lenses, and until I buy an L-mount lens, I’m using my M glass, and the 50 ASPH is very nice on it!

Will the SL 50 APO be totally different than my M 50?

I have a vintage 35 M Summilux, so I might look at the 35 SL APO to different that look more. The 24-90 is too big for my liking.

For context, I’m a photojournalist and do use my Leicas for slower assignments like features and portraits.

I am by no means a pro, however, I have been into photography for the last 45 years and can say, while M lenses will perform very well on the SL (I use a 21mm SEM on my SL2) and the 35 Summilux is a great choice, after having tried and purchased the 35 APO, I find it so good, it rarely comes off my SL2.

I have the 24-90 and it is big and heavy; however it is an excellent lens. My basic use for it is when I am shooting in circumstances where I jump out of a car, etc. and on short hikes. Even though SL2+35SL APO is larger and heavier than my Q2, I like the combo so much, that I have basically allocated my Q2 to its case and will likely sell it. People have asked me why do you like the SL2+ SL 35 APO so much more than the Q2 as it shares similar sensor, etc. etc. My answer is that I like it better and from my perch, it's not a close comparison.

For my purposes, the SL2 + 35 SL APO is my favorite camera/lens combo ever.

Thanks for the insight.

I also just prefer primes to zooms, even though the 24-90 is really nice.

I’ve found both the 35 and 50 SL for similar prices used, so it’s really just what I want to go with.

The first lens I bought for my M was a 50, and it was near perfect.

I have 50 Lux and 35 lux for M, and I have the 35-50-75 app for SL.

The SL app lenses give you a clean balance look with lots of micro contrast. It comes with a price. They are big and heavy, and they don't got to 1.4. you may think that one lens is not so much, but as soon you pack the bag you can feel the difference .

If you like to shoot mostly wide open and like the character of the Lux I would suggest to keep the M lenses going. that is what I do. Unless I reale need the perfect lens the SL APO stay in the studio.

I had the sigma 35mm 1.4. It is very nice lens, Has a little glow at 1.4 and sharp at 2.0

Yeah, agreed. I should have prefaced that I’m definitely a one lens kinda person. Usually a 35 or 50.

I really can’t afford more than one SL APO lens anyways, but found a steal for the 50 for $3,300. I’m thinking that’s it.
