grober Posted September 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Phase One's Capture One LE product is not instantly learn-able but after some personal investment of time, one finds that it's possible to do a lot with it. As an additional benefit, I've now learned that their tech support group is responsive, as human as possible via e-mail, usually nailing the issue with their first response. Leaving a question with them last night about a specific issue concerning their new 4.0 Beta, I noticed that they only offered a choice between "DSLR" or "Phase One back" on the tech support portion of ther website (which one reaches after logging in.) On the bottom of my query, I mentioned that the M8 was neither, suggesting that a third alternative was needed. Their reply to my observation illustrates how pervuasive and thorough the global mind-corruption of DSLR tyranny has become. Quoting their response: "Nice one with the M8 not being a DSLR! I do not think any one here have ever given that a thought". More M8 (and R-D1) evangelism to be done, yes? -g

Guest tummydoc Posted September 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 6, 2007 Perhaps they assume M8 users will get all the support they need from Leica forums
pklein Posted September 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 6, 2007 Years ago, I participated in a consumer phone survey where I was asked if I owned a "single lens reflex system camera." At the time, I didn't have an SLR of any kind, but I did have a srew-mount Leica and several lenses. After some discussion, we decided that the intent of the question was best served if I answered "Yes." They wanted to know if one had a pro or prosumer camera, as opposed to a point-and-shoot or no camera at all. Life is more complex than marketeer's categories. --Peter
hankg Posted September 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 6, 2007 I don't think Phase One makes a distinction. There are Phase One back owners and there are the rest who use the software for 35mm based systems. Whether you used a rangefinder to focus the image doesn't really matter much. The one exception would be the lens cast issue which M8 owners share with P1 back owners when using wide angle lenses. It would be nice if they opened the lens cast tool to all software users.
