hdmesa Posted December 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) My new Q2 Reporter was delivering softer than expected results wide open with both single point and small field AF and in normal plus macro modes. When I used manual focus and compared the shots, manual focus was clearly nailing focus but AF was soft both at close distance and infinity. And it wasn't just missing focus, it was actually just soft. I would shoot a receding subject at close distance, and the most in-focus point would still be softer than when using manual focus. I tried it with all combinations of OIS off, on, and auto – same results. Thankfully someone on this forum had a similar experience a while back and said a camera reset fixed the issue. This worked for me – camera now nails focus in AF mode and in any OIS mode. Not sure what was happening, perhaps some sort of default OIS lens group position error. I've had two new Qs, one new Q2M, and two new Q2s, and this second Q2 is the first one I've had with this issue. I just wanted to post this as informational in case anyone else runs across a new Q2 that doesn't seem as sharp as it should be wide open. And for anyone with a Q2, it might be worth it to compare AF to manual focus just to be sure. The soft results I was getting might be easy to dismiss if you didn't know what to expect from the Q2 lens.
