But Guy,

When do we get an up-date from Leica with a better jpg quality out of the camera? What I think is relevant and the 'morale' here is that good jpg's out of the camera is a good thing. The key word is 'speed'.

When will we get it?

Well it was asked for in a meeting i had in Germany. My concern was the compression of jpegs is too much and also AWB issues. The question of speed is a interesting one obviously shooting jpeg the camera has to do the processing and that does slow it down and a improvement would certainly help

What does that mean? That M8 has too slow/don't have the computer capacity to handle better jpg files?

Tom--

The M8 appears to be optimized for writing raw files. The camera takes longer to write JPGs than to write DNGs.

Does this mean that we will not see an up date from Leica with better looking/less compressed jpgs? Do we have to wait untill M9 to get this?

Thanks Joe i will fix that but with jpeg shoot fine and just adjust the color temp to taste, AWB was pretty good but i still don't trust it totally for jpeg. Also do a test on sharpening , i wound up with adding some in camera

If you want to try something interesting try a small program called Free Photo Converter. Drag in or select a folder of any kind of photo image pick your jpeg size and quality, and convert. It's practically an instant conversion and works well with DNG files.
