Guest tvleeskr Posted January 20, 2008 Share #41 Posted January 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Check that you have Lens recognition on + that your lens has been coded + that you select the CORRECT lens length when the menu comes on. If you do that, no vignetting. If you don't - DARK corners. I was caught out - it's annoying quirk of the M8. This just confirms JLM's position that the tolerances are a bit too tight. I checked this with mine of course and the vignetting does not go away.
Advertisement Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi Guest tvleeskr, Take a look here Vignetting on CV 15/4.5 with Milich filter holder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jscottyk Posted April 4, 2008 Share #42 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm looking into it. the present design was arrived at by making several prototypes, enlarging the opening until vignetting just disappeared. It looks like I need more of a saftey margin. Regarding centering and axial alignment, the attachment to the lens is less than ideal, given that it can only fit around the existing petalled hood and be side clamped with a set screw. I will probably increase the opening and set it to match a standard lens cap. as far as choosing a larger filter, uh-uh, tolerances are too tight. Does anyone know if the design has been updated? I sent a private message to jlm several weeks ago inquiring but haven't heard.

It sems to me that with a larger filter (which would of course entail an entirely new hood) tolerances would actually be less tight! But if you can solve he problem, I'm in line for a new hood. BTW, it seems to me that with superwide lenses, lens shades are more or less psychotherapeutic devices. The 'petals' of the lens are for protecting the bulging front element, they don't shade anything. The old man from the Age of Visible Light
Ecar Posted April 6, 2008 Share #44 Posted April 6, 2008 Does anyone know if the design has been updated? I sent a private message to jlm several weeks ago inquiring but haven't heard. I asked him the same question a couple of weeks ago. Answer is yes - design seems to have been updated to "minimize" vignetting. Not sure it means it's fixed, but I have ordered it and should receive it shortly. Will post my impressions then.
jscottyk Posted April 8, 2008 Share #45 Posted April 8, 2008 Thanks for the update ecar. I look forward to your report.
Ecar Posted April 18, 2008 Share #46 Posted April 18, 2008 Thanks for the update ecar. I look forward to your report. I did a few quick tests today, so this is only preliminary. In addition to proper coding and software settings (lens detection On+UV/IR, then select 16mm) the trick is to screw the filter in the adapter as much as possible (I'm using a Leica filter). This seems to enable the adapter to fit closer to the lens and minimize vignetting. The important word here is indeed "minimize" (see my previous post quoting JM's response), as you will definitely see some vignetting. Tolerances are very tight, and you may get slightly different results depending on how you fix the filter on the petal hood using the nylon screw. Need to play with the adapter and do a bit more tests at different apertures when I have some spare time. Will post examples here.
lars_bergquist Posted April 18, 2008 Share #47 Posted April 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I still think a larger filter would be in order. Just 41 or 43 mm would be enough. The old man from the Age of Print Vignetting
-Lss- Posted June 18, 2011 Share #48 Posted June 18, 2011 Sorry for bringing this back, but I wonder if there was an update to this issue (links to other threads are welcome, I am still searching them myself). Some of the posts suggest there was an updated design. Just what was updated, and is there a DIY solution for the older/original design? I recently got hold of the Milich filter holder for the CV 15. Lovely piece of equipment, but unfortunately not perfect. There is a varying degree of vignetting with different configurations, but the key piece of information is that there is always some very apparent vignetting when the filter holder is on the lens. I guess I have the non-updated design, I bought it second hand, so I don't really know. I am using a Leica brand filter. There is vignetting with and without filter, with and without lens detection (WATE), with all WATE focal lengths. Trust me, I have tried every combination possible with what I have. So, just accept it, give up on the filter holder, or try to fix it?
Thomv Posted June 18, 2011 Share #49 Posted June 18, 2011 1) revisit the purchase and claim your money back 2) contact JM to find out if he is willing to part exchange (can imo never be free of cost) 3) use cornerfix 4) declare vignetting your new 'style'. epand56 Posted June 21, 2011 Share #50 Posted June 21, 2011 Wolfgang. I suggest you to sell the old version and buy the new CV 15 with M-mount and RF coupled. All you have to do is screw on a B+V E52 UV/IR filter, code it as a WATE and start shooting without any problem. It is a wonderful lens. Here you are a couple examples:
