whatisitscientist Posted October 23, 2021 Share #1  Posted October 23, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I've been a long time reader here but not much of a poster. I come seeking some advice. Recently, I upgraded from a CL to an M4. Unfortunately, the M4 arrived with what looks like fungus around the edges of the rangefinder patch. The seller has offered to refund me some of the money but I'm not sure whether I should send it back or take the refund and put that money towards a CLA. Would a CLA get rid of the fungus? To be honest, the camera is in good condition and will probably need a CLA at some point but I'm worried about the lasting effects of fungus on the rangefinder patch. I've enclosed photos so hopefully you can see what I mean. Thanks very much for any advice. Welcome, dear visitor! Hintsalae Posted October 23, 2021 Share #2  Posted October 23, 2021 (edited) Looks like my M5 last year. If problem is same It's separation between glass plates which create those brightlines and ragefinder patch to your viewfinder. It will only get worse and only fix is replacing the part. Currently it looks like this and focusing is getting harder. Maybe someone more experienced could confirm if fungus there is even possible. Welcome, dear visitor! wattsy Posted October 23, 2021 Share #3  Posted October 23, 2021 I agree with @Hintsalae. Most likely separation. It doesn't look like fungus.
Mute-on Posted October 23, 2021 Share #4  Posted October 23, 2021 Also agree, from personal experience. It is separation of the viewfinder mask glass ‘sandwich’.  Only repair is replacement of the mask, very likely with an M4-P all metal mask. Not cheap. I would return it unless you got a bargain.
