sean_reid Posted August 15, 2006 Share #21 Posted August 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) True but with higher capacity cards, CF is a standard for pro photogs. SD is not a bad thing but 8 GB CF cards are fabulous if I could find them! Everyone has their own philosophy about this but the downside of large cards is that one loses a lot of pictures if a given card is lost, damaged, corrupted, etc. I prefer to distribute an assignment over several cards so that if something should go wrong with a card during a shoot, I won't lose as many pictures as I might have. My rule of thumb is to aim for about a hundred frames per card so I use 1-GB SD cards for the R-D1s and 2-GB CF cards for the 5D. Advertisement Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Hi sean_reid, Take a look here M8; Compact Flash or SD. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jrc Posted August 15, 2006 Share #22 Posted August 15, 2006 Some cameras can use two cards simultaneously; and a camera that could use two SD cards in several different ways would be an interesting innovation, expecially for professionals. Two SD cards would be about as small as one CF, and if there was a menu selection that let you route the pictures to the two cards alternately, you'd have double capacity and a kind of "shooting backup" for an entire shoot... Also, the lower capactiy cards have become lots cheaper; 1G under $50 at Target. But that may be for the future... JC
