swatch Posted September 23, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is TL 11-23mm being suitable for architectural photography ( I am aware of built-in lens corrections in the DNG file but don't how good is the built-in lens correction )? Thank you in advance to those sharing their experience in using this lens and image process of the respective DNG file.
Advertisement Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Hi swatch, Take a look here Is TL 11-23mm being suitable for architectural photography. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted September 23, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 23, 2021 There is distortion at the edges, especially at the widest end, but there is a Flat-Field plugin for Lightroom that helps. I don't do architectural photography, but I took a group photo in a small room once where Flat-Field saved me (the people at the edges were a bit 'wider' than real life). It's a bit fiddly, but a shallower learning curve than the Photoshop options (though I'm sure the latter are fine once you know how to use them). tommonego@gmail.com Posted September 23, 2021 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2021 This is more of a quick snap than a well thought out architectural photograph. The 11-23 set at 17mm f5.6, looking at the semicircle roof features of the adjoining building there seems to be very little distortion,a littlelossof sharpness in that corner, but it is quite a distance from the focal point. HuntingSand Posted September 23, 2021 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2021 Absolutely! It's not a hyper-corrected T/S lens, but it does perform at a very high level (think 21mm Super-Elmar for example). One of my favorite L mount lenses, and extremely versatile, too. HuntingSand Posted September 23, 2021 Share #10 Posted September 23, 2021 Last one... Anyway, as you can see, it is possible to cover a lot of ground (not only physical, but subjects etc.) with this one lens. It's sharp edge to edge, small(ish) and portable, balances well on the T and CL bodies, and is just a pleasure to use all around. Welcome, dear visitor! swatch Posted September 24, 2021 Author Share #11 Posted September 24, 2021 Thank you very much to localhero, tommonego and huntingsand in sharing your thoughts and pictures 🙏🏻 Yes it isn’t a T/S lens moreover it seems built-in lens correction in DNG file has been doing a good job. Yes, portability is a big attractive reason to use this lens. Thank you again for all your inputs and pictures which are very well composed 🙏🏻
wsself Posted September 28, 2021 Share #12 Posted September 28, 2021 I thought you'd be interested to see what 'maximum distortion' looks like using this lens, so here's three examples. Each image was captures using my Leica CL, the 11-23 Vario at the 11mm focal length, and of course I shot them from a looking upward perspective to bring out that converging lines look in each image. I nearly sold this lens about a year ago, but I'm happy that I've held on to it. It's incredibly sharp and versatile. Welcome, dear visitor!
