jlancasterd Posted September 16, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 16, 2007 Don't know about KL, but in Kuching I'd go to Anna Photo. Peter Wee, the owner and a Leica enthusiast and dealer, did all of my processing for nearly 5 years when I lived there. He used an E6 mini-lab. If you ask at the main camera shops you may find somewhere similar in KL
leiuser Posted September 18, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2007 John, Anna Photo in Kuching ceased their E6 processing recently. The reason is simple, far too few transparencies sent in to justify the operational costs. In Kuala Lumpur, you can try Photo Media services at Jalan SS 2/67 Petaling Jaya in Selangor. Contact Mr.Ng for your needs. There are'nt too many labs offering these services in Malaysia currently. Yet in Singapore you can get fresh variety stocks of colour negative films and transparencies at Cathay Photo in Peninsular Plaza.

Paul Thanks for bringing me up to date - I haven't heard from Peter Wee for a couple of years and hadn't realised that the market for film in Malaysia has changed so dramatically. I must drop Peter a line and find out if he's using an M8 - he was still using an R9 for much of his work the last time I saw him. I bought a lot of Leica R and M stuff from him over the years. I also knew the Cathay Photo store fairly well and there used to be at least one other photo store fairly close by in the same Plaza - one that sold secondhand Leica amongst other stuff - is it still there? jothiratnam Posted September 24, 2007 Share #8 Posted September 24, 2007 Hi, don't know if Photo Media are still around, I seem to recall that they shut down a couple of years ago, but I may be mistaken about that. Photomarketing are most definitely around though; I used them last year. If you have a fair number of rolls to process, they will even pick-up and deliver (in KL only I think). Re the shop on the ground floor of Peninsula Plaza dealing in used Leica (and other) equipment, it's still there, and the guy running it seems to be quite pleasant and helpful. There are also a couple of other shops in the neighbourhood (one upstairs in P Plaza, another across the street) which deal in used Leica equipment. Not sure how good the guys running them are though: At one of the shops, I had a distinct Hong Kong-experience: The merchant was only interested in making a sale, and was reluctant to let me look at his wares before buying (perhaps with good reason, as one of his lenses had very stiff aperture ring, and another would not retract properly). Hope this helps, Jothiratnam
rob_x2004 Posted September 24, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted September 24, 2007 Thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately I left on the tenth and just got back. One thing I noticed was how shockingly expensive KL and most of Malaysia is for up to date gear. Plenty of cheep and nasty though, but you would do as well with a shonk on eBay. Good prices in Malaysia on service based stuff, life and labour is cheep.....I would use the word service guardedly though.
