thr1961 Posted August 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) After 5 years with both generations of Qs, I made the leap and just received a new M10 today. 3 hours later, the battery charger is STILL flashing green and a quick test with the camera indicates there is not enough juice for it to even turn on. Is the first change something that normally takes so long or is it more likely that I ended up with a defective battery? I suppose I can go and try to find one this weekend, as I really want to get started with it, but am interested to hear what this group has to say. Likely more questions and requests for advice to follow, but right now, I am a bit stuck!
Advertisement Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Hi thr1961, Take a look here Brand New M10 Battery Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Helge Posted August 28, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2021 Is the 80% LED on? A new battery might take a little longer, however the 80% indicator should be lit after 3h. Is the charging LED flashing fast (~2Hz)? That would be (according to the manual) a charge error. In that case disconnect everything, check the battery’s temperature and try again. If it persists you got probably a bad battery.
thr1961 Posted August 28, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted August 28, 2021 So, the charger flashes but never flips to the 80% status. I also have a Q2 and so know how that works. I suspect that the dealer had this for some time, but it was definitely brand new and unopened when I received it. This is a very reputable individual and so I don't suspect any ill intent here. Given that this is a brand new system, I am hoping that Leica will cover it. In the meantime I have a brand new camera and lens that I am unable to use! thr1961 Posted August 28, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted August 28, 2021 I let it sit overnight and nothing changed... I am thinking of driving to the nearest Leica store (Boston) to potentially buy a new battery, but it's a two plus hour round trip, so I am trying to avoid it. Helge Posted August 28, 2021 Share #8 Posted August 28, 2021 (edited) As you anyway need a 2nd battery, I would get that and I would return the 1st one as a clear warranty case (original battery & original charger assumed). Maybe you can that cleared by mail? Edited August 28, 2021 by Helge
Helge Posted August 28, 2021 Share #9 Posted August 28, 2021 I double checked the manual. If I read it correctly, in case of a short circuit etc. both LEDs should flash fast, not just the green one.

Hopefully I can find a battery today and then deal with the return/exchange with Leica over the phone on Monday. Many thanks.
Helge Posted August 28, 2021 Share #11 Posted August 28, 2021 Ok, no short circuit but still not right.
derleicaman Posted August 28, 2021 Share #12 Posted August 28, 2021 I thought I had an issue with the new battery on my recently purchased M10-P. I have had my other M10-P for several years and have 2 extra batteries for it. Several years ago, I purchased a Nitecore charger and have been using it with no issues. I tried to charge the new battery same as usual on the Nitecore, and it would not take a charge. I thought I had a defective battery and contacted the seller. He asked if I was using the OEM Leica charger. I tried the Leica charger, and the battery took a charge. When I went to re-charge it, I tried the Nitecore, and now no problem. I mark my batteries with the date purchased, so it is easy to keep track of them. Could it be that the batteries need to be conditioned when new? thr1961 Posted August 28, 2021 Author Share #13 Posted August 28, 2021 For those following along: I went to the Leica store in Boston and we tested out both the battery and the charg. It turns out that it was a non functioning battery as my charger worked with their test battery. Now the amazing part: they had a replacement available and simply gave it to me even though I didn't buy it there. They will return it to Leica and I don't have to do anything. Now I am patiently waiting for the new one to hit 80% and then tomorrow maybe I can actually use my new camera. Amazing service and support.
Helge Posted August 29, 2021 Share #14 Posted August 29, 2021 You didn‘t get a 2nd battery there? You‘ll need it.

They only had one in the store, but I ordered a 2nd which will arrive in a few days. The battery is fully charged so I am heading out to make some pictures. BTW: the seller did get back to me and he had this in his stock for 3 years, which is probably the reason for it failing. I had been after a used version but he sold this to me new in box for such an amazing price, I couldn't let it pass. He was totally prepared to send me a new battery and charger as well, so stand-up folks all around! Thanks again to all for the help.
