After the very successful 250 GTO program, the Scuderia commissioned Scaglietti to build a small series ( 4 units ) of 4-liter front-engined Berlinettas. They weren't raced much since the focus in the factory racing team that year was on rear/mid engined cars ( 250P ) and consequently don't have significant competion history except for one fifth place overall result at the '63 24 hours LeMans race,  achieved by the car posted here.

These cars are held in the highest esteem by serious collectors and in those rare circumstances when they do come up for sale or trade bring prices similar to those of the immortal original GTO.

Front-engine, 3967 cc Colombo designed T-163 60 degree V12 motor developing 390 HP. As opposed to the 250 SWB-based chassis in the classic GTO, the 330 LMB utilizes a modified Lusso chassis, extended to 2420mm. wheelbase.

When you're lucky enough to see one of these, you don't hesitate, you simply take all the photos you can.

Sideview - even though the front closely resembles the classic GTO, the car is based on the structure of the 250 Lusso road car.

The final image, a 3/4 quarter rear view............reminds me a bit of the Aston-Martin Project 214 which was designed to compete against the GTOs, but alas, the time for front-engined  berlinettas such as these was rapidly drawing to a close, with prototype racers designed for track-duty exclusively ruling endurance racing ever since.

I can't help but admire the elegance & simplicity of the solution chosen to provide vertical clearance for the large rear tires by letting the raised 'humps' double as aerodynamic devices to relieve pressure in the rear wheel-wells.

A local farmer (friend of the family, mad about cars) had a black, mid 1960s 330 GT. Its numberplate was also 350 GT.

It was somehow fitting as Chris Amon lived just up the road. He, rather famously, also had one as a young man barely out of his teens, when he won at Le Mans with Bruce McLaren.

I never got to ride in our friend’s car, much as I wanted to. It was very beautiful.
