gylee Posted August 14, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Given the recent events in the UK and the fact that it might be necessary to check camera gear at short notice on future trips, I am reviewing my insurance arrangements. I am curious what success other have had with finding an insurance policy that comprehensively covers their cameras against loss, theft and preferably damage worldwide and which includes coverage while the items are in checked luggage. Having made some initial inquiries here in Hong Kong, I am not having much luck. Can anyone recommend an insurance broker and product that would cover me worldwide out of Hong Kong? Feel free to PM me if you would prefer.

bono0272 Posted August 14, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 14, 2006 Gordon, I'd asked the same question when I went to Spain in April this year. I quoted quite a lot of insurance companies here in Hong Kong (I also came from HK) but unfortunately the travelling insurance on my belongings only covered a certain amount, say, with a upper limit. And that highest limit of insurance covers can never compensate any losses on your Leica equipment. Even if you want to pay more on the travelling insurance fee for a higer coverage, the insurance agencies did not accept. The reason was such travelling insurance package is fixed. (This was the case in Hong Kong, I am not sure whether there are better insurance program elsewhere) So if you really want to have full coverage on your equipment, you have to participate in a tailor-made insurance program, which will cost you a lot of money. uulrich Posted August 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 14, 2006 We have a scheme for issuing press cards, there are a couple of gatekeepers who are authorized to issue these press cards. The same list of gatekeepers has an insurance to offer. It's for UK only. I don't think you can opt in but there must be a similar thing in your country. I trust this helps. djcastelli Posted August 15, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 15, 2006 I have my equipment covered by my homeowner's insurance against theft. I have had a 'rider' attached to the policy to cover accidental loss, repair at 100% current market value. I'm not a porfessional, (the costs go up if you're a working pro) so it cost me an additional $50.00 USD per year. I sumitted reciepts for all equipment, and I update the list every couple of years.
