Hi guys,

i'm still waiting for a 35 cron asph silver form my dealer and we have to talk about a question:

is the 35 summilux asph Silver (chrome) version still produced?

opinions seem not to match between dealers....

in that case, maybe i would prefer it to the 35cron (that i had in the past)...

and starting from this point:

considering not the price: how would you compare 'em? what would you suggest and why?

please, consider not the fact as someone wrote in some past thread, that a 3000€ lens should be obviously better than a 2000€ lens...

i really want to know your impressions about handling, carryin', focusing, weight, RF cover...

obviously samples are greatly appreciate (especially at Full Aperture)...

maybe someone could make even a comparison between cron and lux deal with B/W (both digital jpg and film).i.e.: i found that some lenses deliver their best with B/W rather than Colour (and viceversa)...My impression is that CV15 is always superb with B/W, can't say the same for what that concern colour, i find instead the 75lux a superb lens with both, and my impressions are that 28cron "works better" with colour than B/W. Astonishing is the result of the 24elmarit with B/W (didn't like so much his colours), and superb i might say is the WATE when shooting colours...

Obviously these are only MY IMPRESSIONS....

now i wait yours (impressions and suggestions)

Regards

Maurizio

Of course the 35 cron is still made in silver and is a wonderfully performing lens. It's size makes it a very attractive alternative to the lux. Silver luxes do come on the auction sites now and again and I bought a relatively mint one about six months ago and had it recalibrated, cleaned and lubricated at Leica service in N.J. I thankfully have not had the focus issues talked about often on this site.

I can''t speak for the 35 lux asph because i never owned one

But the 35 cron asph is a lens for colorwork imho.... i do not like it's B&W rendition on digital at all (i never liked it on the R-D1 and i do not like it on the M8)!

Since i had some issues with my 35 lux pre-asph and the M8 .... .. i unfortunately had to sell it (it was gorgeous for B&W and my favourite lens on the R-D1).

I bought a 35 cron pre-asph (IV) as a substitute ........... and BINGO ... i love this lens .........do not know if i want to keep the 35 cron asph in the end ... but it is a difficult lens to sell ... the market seems flooded with them ,,,,,

It is a very sharp lens, and quite contrasty compared to other Leica lenses, similar to the 28 Elmarit Asph. As such, it is probably not great for people living in very sunny places, but could come into its own in lower contrast lighting.

Same experience here. I went from a 35 cron asph to a 35 lux asph. They were gorgeous lenses when used with slide colour film. Then the M8 came, and their signature was too much incisive for digital captures. I tried a IV version chrome Summicron and got hooked. Never went back to the asph versions.

And I experienced the same with the 28mm: back in november 2006 I bought one of the first new asph Elmarits. I am selling now it after having tested a pre-asph, IV version Elmarit. The pre-asph lenses seem to perform better on the M8 sensor than their aspherical counterparts.

Now I am looking forward to the new Summarit series.
