MJLogan Posted August 30, 2007 Share #1  Posted August 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The long-rumored L10 is official: http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/lumix/index.html  It's even been previewed at DPReview: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0708/07083011panasonicL10.asp  Nothing remotely interesting about it, to me--a very "me, too" camera as opposed to the L1/D3, which was a real statement. I hope Leica will leave it out of their rebadging program.  The 14-150 Vario-Elmar lens is official, too. http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/lumix/leica_d_lens/zoom_lens03.html I'm looking forward to trying that out on my D3.  While I understand that the L1/D3 have not exactly set the world on fire, I'm saddened to see its distinctive design and control layout so totally abandoned. If the L1/D3 ends up a dead end like the LC1/D2, I'll be much sadder still. Maybe it's all a trick to get us all ready to abandon the D system for the R10 in a year or two...I'd better start saving again.
Advertisement Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Hi MJLogan, Take a look here The Panasonic L10 is announced. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
karlitos Posted August 30, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted August 30, 2007 Notice that the 14-50 kit lens has a 3.5/5.6 aperture. This will be a budget, entry level camera as was rumoured. Hopefully they will push some more lenses to the market now, I would really like some telephoto glass in the ilk of the D3 kit lens. Â Karlitos. spylaw4 Posted August 30, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted August 30, 2007 Now we need to know the availability date for the 14-150! I'm looking forward to seeing some results from it!
MJLogan Posted August 30, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted August 30, 2007 Now we need to know the availability date for the 14-150! I'm looking forward to seeing some results from it! Â According to CNet, it will be available in November, and list for $1,300: http://news.com.com/Panasonic+broadens+SLR+ambitions+with+L10/2100-1041_3-6205276.html?tag=ne.gall.related
dist Posted August 30, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted August 30, 2007 According to CNet, it will be available in November, and list for $1,300: Â If it's as "available" (NOT!) as the 1.4/25 more than half a year of its sales start.... thanks but no thanks. Market laws do not seem to hold in this case. The lens (1.4/25) is the undisputed leader in fast primes, it's in high demand, price is stable - but there are none to be had. MJLogan Posted August 30, 2007 Author Share #7 Â Posted August 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dishearteningly, the CNet piece quotes a Panasonic official as saying the L10 has "much more Panasonic DNA" than the L1, which was co-developed with Leica. The L10 represents the future path of Panasonic DSLR development, he said.
spylaw4 Posted August 30, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted August 30, 2007 Reading the CNet piece further there are some more interesting snippets.... Â ".. The L10 body has image stabilization that can correct for some camera shake by moving the image sensor. In cases where image stabilization also is built into the lens, the camera body overrides the lenses for the task, the company said....." I find it strange and to me illogical that with an OIS 14-50 already available separately, they include OIS on this "junior" 14-50 lens if there is sensor OIS. Â And it seems that we can look out for more 4/3 lenses..."It will be expanding that lens range further. "We're fully intent on blowing out our lens portfolio," Campbell said. Having a wide array of lenses is an important part of fulfilling the promise of SLR cameras." Â Prove me wrong - but I don't really expect Leica to re-badge this one. Maybe the higher spec one that is still to come.

bill Posted August 30, 2007 Share #11  Posted August 30, 2007 A budget, entry level camera for $1300 though?  Sounds pretty budget to me - that's about £650 - that'll be below £500 within four months.  Regards,  Bill
johnjs Posted August 31, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted August 31, 2007 $1300 for this seems highly overpriced for an entry level DSLR kit when everyone else is in the sub $800 range for their starter DSLR's with a kit lens. But then maybe I'm missing all of the wonderful advantages to the 4/3rds system: what were they again? best-John

Riley Posted August 31, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted August 31, 2007 yes i thought i read the intended price for this camera was US$
Iron Flatline Posted August 31, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted August 31, 2007 I don't know what it will cost, but I am underwhelmed. Â I hope Leica doesn't rebadge this either. I agree with MJLogan that I am sad to see the Digilux 3 and it's quirky design possibly come to an end. Â It strikes my little deisgn heart as pointless that they would introduce a Me Too dSLR, but what the market wants, the market gets. Â I hope (though seriously doubt) that Leica will continue the Digilux 3-style dSLR camera. Too bad, I loved the chrome/black look, the whole twisted sideways quasi-RF lay-out.. oh well. dist Posted August 31, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted August 31, 2007 The amount of crystal ball reading going on here is simply amazing. The imminent demise of the Digilux3 because Panasonic announced an entry dSLR with a whopping 4-5.6 lens - what next then? Armageddon possibly

Don't hold your breath LOL "in the market from around November 2007" (press release) - that's Panasonic speak for "expect to see them surface around late Q2/2008 and then in very limited quantities only". Guest stnami Posted August 31, 2007 Share #19  Posted August 31, 2007 No lesson learnt from the L1...then again Panasonic sells well in Japan..........maybe it's a matter of doesn't matter
imnotaniceboy Posted August 31, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted August 31, 2007 With the introduccion of the 14-150 with aperture ring i guess they will continue to make pro lenses with aperture ring and pro bodies with shutter dial. If not, I'll feel betray and will switch to canon, nikon or other brand with similar products but better and cheaper equipment. Â i wonder if the aperture ring of the other D lenses works with the l10 body. Is it posible to download the L10 manual somewhere?
