Today arrived the "New Petzval Art Lens 85/f2.2" with a Nikon F mount. I bought a used copy and paid around half the price of a new one. Fair enough, so I got my new toy today. The lens looks brand new as the previous owner used it apparently just once or twice and put it in the shelf afterwards. Passing people are staring at the golden (brass) lens and wondering what it might be. It's the perfect lens imho to get weird unpredictable photos of selected subjects. The lens is cool and it's a lot of fun to use it. Ain't this what living is really all about.

So the New Petzval Art Lens is my artistic and crazy lens. Artistic because it is part of the name and the results could look like weird art. Crazy because the result is unpredictable even with the clunky Visoflex 020 which makes my M10 with the Petzval even more clunky.
I went for a short stroll around the neighbourhood and took a couple of shots. Here are my first shots (@Waterhouse aperture f2.2).
Please feel free to add your photos. Just state a reason to forum members why the lens you are using is an artistic and/or crazy lens. Make sure the overlapping is as little as possible with the "Thambar-Crazy" thread / "Karbe Magic" or "The view through older Glass" thread.

Found some straying elves today, instead of singing they gave me an ad leaflet and hovered away happy altogether.

I thought that you might just like to compare your 'new' Petzval with one from 1862/3. I cannot mount it on my SL as yet but should soon be able to do so, so if the modes will forgive for once, here is an A7II image. Its not particularly good but it does at least show that an early Petzval is still usable. Its about 110mm focal length and f3.something! It will apparently cover 3"x4" plates so the SL will crop the middle 1.5" x 1" idc. Price is on a par with a new copy of your lens which is discocertingly little when you consider its age and history. Buy old Petzvals while you can. There are some real 'bargains' to be had and I suspect that their rarity is starting to become known.

A lens around 160 yrs old and the image quality is amazing. What mount do they have and what sort of adapter are you going to use? That'll be interesting for further decisions re art lenses.

Sure.

Left to right, a bunch of Lomography lenses with their respective M adapters:

Petzval 85/2.2, Daguerreotype Achromat 64/2.9, Petzval 58/1.9, Petzval 80.5/1.9, Lomogon 32/2.5. I'll add the others when I find them.
