geflater Posted June 15, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) New with this forum and Leica. A Brief history. My first camera (6 years old 1963) was a secondhand Kodak no.2 Brownie. After this one a secondhand Dacora Digna 80 mm f/8 Achromat and in 1974 I bought a Zenit EM with first earnings. In 1980 an uncle donated a old Leica because I purchased some more old cams. Did some fotography with it until I bought an Olympus Trip 35 in 1981, a very nice cam and more more suitable for a starting family. At this moment (since 2014) I am using a Canon EOS 700D with several lenses as a simple hobby fotographer. Most cameras are for sale except for a small selection including a Voigtlander Bessa and of course the Leica. I am now trying to find out what the history of the Leica is and will start using it again after cleaning. Why? With my age now I am starting to appreciate the old material more and more (old radio's and recordplayers too). I will start a new post in the "Leica Collectors & Historica" with my findings and questions until now. This is a very nice forum and I learned allready some things by reading a lot of posts and links in posts. Greetz, Geflater. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted June 15, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2021 Good day and welcome to the forum. That's a beautiful early black/nickel Leica II with ""lavatory seat" and large dial. The Elmar seems to be an early 7 o'clock type without serial number. Is it just a reflection or is the aperture damaged? Check out the "Events" forum if you like, there is a Tilburg meeting coming up.

geflater Posted June 16, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted June 16, 2021 Thanks. >>Studienkamera<< What does the "lavatory seat and large dial" mean? I thought all this types were the same, could not see any difference between the many pictures I found. Apparently not, what visible differences can be found? I think you see one of the reflections on the lens, it's difficult to take a picture without them. Besides some minor scratches on the blades I think there is no major damage it on them. Probably the lens needs a good cleanup inside. Greetz, Geflater. Welcome, dear visitor! I thought all this types were the same, could not see any difference If you mean that all II models with lavatory seat also have the large dial for setting exposure times, then I agree. That is also my understanding. Good to see the aperture blades without reflections. The earlier picture looked scary!
geflater Posted June 17, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted June 17, 2021 Ok. Never heard about the lavatory seat until now. Can't see the resemblance 🙂
