elansprint72 Posted August 13, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) As one of the principle "polluters" of the Sports & Leisure forum with my car shots I wonder if it is perhps time to create a special section so that those folks who are not into motors can be spared? I did raise this a while back on the old forum and the general advice was that those not interested could avert their gaze; however I ask this question again as we are now more in number. What do you think? Cheers, Pete.
Advertisement Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Hi elansprint72, Take a look here Is it time for a "cars" forum?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted August 13, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2006 "Sports and Leisure" is getting like the car park at the Excel during "The Motor Show 2006" IMHO, there should be a lot more to S&L than car shots. Especially the ones that look like they should be in Exchange and Mart (Just my opinion, of course)
uulrich Posted August 13, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2006 I hv. nothing against good photographs of beautiful cars but I must confess here that I have stopped browsing 'Sports & Leisure Time'. Please do not take this personal; in your case it is unfounded. Too often I had to suffer from lack of pleasant composition, which lead me to look elsewhere. I think you made a good suggestion but I am not aware of the technical impact and the work, which may require to make this happpen.
stunsworth Posted August 13, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2006 At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, I think that while the car shots may be of interest to car fans, they are IMHO amongst the poorest shots in any of the photo forums. Sorry to the car shooters, but too many of them are simple record shots rather than genuinely interesting photographs IMHO. There are exceptions of course, but they do sometime seem like ads in Autotrader.

I'd throw a Champagne party, if we were all in the same city (Ruinart, of course)!! (Then again, I've always loved his photographs, and have told him a million times, and never has he said even "thanks", for some strange f***ing reason that is totally beyond me...) elansprint72 Posted August 13, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted August 13, 2006 Steve, Ulrich, that's exactly why I asked the question (again); there are obviously a lot of folks who love cars and who enjoy shooting them; personally I could look at them all day, even the record shots. However, I feel that the sheer volume of this stuff may be putting other folks off from browsing, which I think is a bad thing. I don't have a clue about the tecnicalities but my vote would be for a separate section, if it is possible. What do the lurking majority think? Cheers, Pete. stunsworth Posted August 13, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 13, 2006 Hi K.P., thanks - sorry for the tawdy response. Yes it does feel strange for the two of us to be agreeing - who knows, it may even happen again :-)

elansprint72 Posted August 13, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted August 13, 2006 "Or just stop posting pictures of cars"... That's just the sort of response I would expect from Lord Barton of Wirral... I bet you don't even know what type of car it is that your man drives you around in... sitting there behind the glass partition, sneering at the peasants........ I did start posting under "Other" at one time, then I started just posting the "arty-farty" ones but eventually I weakened. By popular demand, as it happens:p. Pete. Micheal Posted August 13, 2006 Share #11 Posted August 13, 2006 To all, I allways felt "The Cars" was a great band with a hot sound. Sincerely Michael
lambroving Posted August 13, 2006 Share #12 Posted August 13, 2006 Pete, This concept was discussed in the Testforum and discarded. Those who don't like cars will either have to suffer or avoid clicking on the car links. Steve, Agreed, most are record shots, but a few are actually photographs..., including mine. Maybe you have to like cars? Two of mine have already been picked up for publication. One I've yet to post has been bought for single use at the very healthy price..., a good thing considering how much I over-spent on this last visit. stunsworth Posted August 13, 2006 Share #13 Posted August 13, 2006 William, I did say there were exceptions, but I'm making generalisations about the average. Those sales, would they be to specialist magazines by any chance :-)
elansprint72 Posted August 13, 2006 Author Share #14 Posted August 13, 2006 William, I'd be interested to know who was on the test forum panel, if it were yourself and Allan B then you could be accused of a certain amount of bias:rolleyes:. Note that I'm sort of playing devil's advocate here because, once again, I feel a certain mood of antipathy, if not antaganism about/against "our" type of shots. Let the masses have their say!!! Regards, Pete.
andybarton Posted August 13, 2006 Share #15 Posted August 13, 2006 It wouldn't be so bad if people posted stuff which wasn't cars in that section. I tried... There is so much more to S&L than cars.
lambroving Posted August 13, 2006 Share #16 Posted August 13, 2006 Pete, There were no advocates per se. As I recall, Andreas found a separate category impractical/unnecessary. Members on our side, Andy, Allan, myself, John Mead, Doug, Steve U. and the rest, if any, I forget.

Micheal Posted August 13, 2006 Share #19 Posted August 13, 2006 To all, There are car shots (the object) & car shots where the "car" is an integral part of the image but, not the point. I use car shots in my images frequently but that is not the point. Sincerely, Michael http://www.stardustgrafik.com
steed Posted August 13, 2006 Share #20 Posted August 13, 2006 we are going to some dark places, my friends. Putting my own passion for cars aside, lets not pars and syntax the term "sports and leisure" and lets treat eachother with respect.
