Will that M8 come with the Leica Passport, etc..? M8 @ Amazon.com Thanks!

Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2007 Maggie i would rather see you buy it from a online autourized dealer like camerawest: Home talk to Sean or Tony at http://www.popflash tell them both Guy sent you, they will take good care of you . There both in California and these folks will go to the wall for you as a customer or David at Dale labs in florida
andybarton Posted August 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 27, 2007 Looks like a pretty full price, before the "discount". Any reason why your boyfriend doesn't want to use a normal dealer? At least with a normal dealer, you can talk to someone who actually might know about the product, as opposed to someone who knows how to drive a fork-lift truck around a warehouse the size of 10 football pitches. I know where I'd rather spend five grand. If you click through on the popflash.com advert up top, you may get a discount, but you most certainly will be helping the forum through the click-through credit. Amazon are very good for books though. Books don't go wrong.

There both in California and these folks will go to the wall for you as a customer or David at Dale labs in florida I think he'd just as as soon avoid California dealers, as sales tax ups the price significantly. (I'm in Nebraska, he's in the SF bay area) Now, the camera will be shipped to me in NE, so maybe that'll negate the sales tax problem. I'll point him at this thread, tho' and maybe he'll have some questions, etc...

There aren't any authorized Leica dealers in Nebraska, so it's got to be online for me either way.
johnastovall Posted August 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 27, 2007 I plan to buy my M8 from Amazon. I have bought a 5D, 85/1.2LII and many other bits of my Canon Gear. They are authorized for what they sell and if you use the Amazon card you will a nice bunch of 25 dollar certificates for other things.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 27, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The issue is who does Amazon deal with and do you go back to Amazon or do you go to Adorama which is who they use to get a return , refund or have issues and want to talk to someone. Now if he is in California i understand totally the tax issue , than go with B&H or Photo Village with Rick Pinto. The point here is a human body that can answer questions and return to Leica or replace camera on the spot or within a few days. I have been down this road more than i want to admit and i want a human at some point to talk too if I need too not a customer service agent that knows nothing of what i just bought. Not that anything is wrong with Amazon just at this price i want someone to hold my hand and respond to my needs and quickly. Just my opinion

Just my opinion Guy, I see that Amazon works with Calumet, might that be a good choice? Remember, even though it's his credit card, it's my camera. We'll also be buying two CV lenses from Cameraquest. Right now, I"m leaning towards the 21mm Color Skopar and the 35mm Ulton. Thoughts?
carstenw Posted August 27, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 27, 2007 21-35-75 is a great 3-lens setup. Any chance of scraping together enough for a CV75? I also tend to support small stores. I like to be able to walk into someplace and talk to people.

When you see that you are dealing directly with them. Amazon will directly replace items or do refunds.

Calumet is a good store and they also have shops in California , i would check on the tax even though the main store is in Chicago. i buy from the Apple website but get nailed for the tax here because they have 2 locations in Phoenix, give them a call to make sure. i just don't want you out there fishing around if you have a issue, just here to help you

I would not risk having a 5k camera thrown in a box with a packing slip to get free ground shipping. Tony at Popflash has excellent customer service and will take care of you even after the purchase. If you are shipping out of CA then tax should be no problem. I woudn't be surprised if he matched the $25 Amazon gift cards as well.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 27, 2007 Share #13 Posted August 27, 2007 hell he just sent me a note on filters let me ask him real quick. I think shipping it out of state does qualify but California is a weird state on tax

I like to be able to walk into someplace and talk to people. There might be enough for a CV 75mm by Christmas, but not in time for Europe. (I leave on 9/18/07 for London.) I like dealing with small stores, too. Sadly, the nearest one I could walk into and talk Leica is hundreds of miles away.

Maggie If you want to talk Leica with a specialist store, there are several in London that UK residents recommend - as a non-resident you could also buy duty-free (or duty-refunded - I can't remember exactly how it works these days) - there is at least one that deals in CV lenses too. Hi John, I'd kind of like to have some time at home, even if it's only a few days, to familiarize myself with the new camera and lenses. I'd like to hit the ground shooting, so to speak, once I hit the UK and EU. That said, I might avail myself of local Leica knowledge in London, before crossing the Channel.
