Ronaldraw Posted May 1, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have never used a screen protector for my camera's or cell phone. Im wondering how strong the screen of the viewfinder is of the Q2. Is it gorilla glass or is it not so strong and its better to use a screen protector? PhotoCruiser Posted May 1, 2021 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2021 I use screen protectors on all my devices, including on my new M1 MacBook Pro (but to reduce reflections) I scratched a lot of cell phone screen protectors and screens without protectors, but not never my cameras displays Probably because I take more care and use less my cameras than my cell phone. However I have the original Leica film protector on my Q2 and will switch over to the Leica Hybrid screen protector as its made of much sturdier glass. As i see no cons to use a screen protector - not even the price - I would suggest that you mount one. Chris

However, glass is ways better than whatever plastic films, particularly for scratch resistance and protection from hitting the screen Chris
Parallax Posted May 1, 2021 Share #5 Posted May 1, 2021 55 minutes ago, Ronaldraw said: The Expert Shield Glass Screen Protector for Leica Q2 Camera, Standard has better reviews I installed the Expert Shield glass protector on my Q2 to cover the LCD display. I use them on cameras and phones. It's reasonably priced and comes with two in case you screw up the installation or need to replace it later. If you use the hinge method, the protector will be perfectly placed. This just requires using two small strips of painters' masking tape over one edge of the protector and the camera body to create a hinge while you're holding the protector where you want it. Then gently swing up the unhinged edge of the protector, carefully remove the plastic film to expose the adhesive and let the protector swing down into place. The trickiest part is eliminating dust before you drop it into place.
piblondin Posted May 1, 2021 Share #6 Posted May 1, 2021 I’ve always used one on my cameras. For the Q2, I got a cheap one online for about $7, and I assume that I’ll have to replace it someday. Personally, I don’t find that the hinge method works particularly well because the tape I used wasn’t strong enough, and I didn’t want to use anything other than masking or painter’s tape. I’ve had much better success with just aligning one edge and then dropped the rest of the protector down over the screen.
kirkmc Posted November 17, 2021 Share #7 Posted November 17, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a Q2M a couple of months ago, and initially thought it wouldn't need a screen protector. I had a chat with someone from the Leica online store here in the UK, and I asked, and she said that the test units they send out sometimes come back scratched, and strongly recommended getting one. I've always put them on my Fujifilm cameras, whose backs aren't glass, but figured this would be more robust. Given the cost of the camera, and the cost to replace the back glass, it's certainly worth getting one.
Trankster Posted November 17, 2021 Share #8 Posted November 17, 2021 I use a thin hardened glass screen protector purchased from Amazon two years ago and have had no issues with the touch functionality. The screen protector shows wear, so I know it is doing its job.
