I understand that when using crop mode to shoot stills on the Q2 there is a loss of resolution, successively, each time you punch in closer - and I also understand that some people feel this resolution-loss is negligible, depending on whatever they are specifically doing while shooting and in post.

However, I just want to check whether or not I am right about something that is related, but different. This drop in resolution when cropping does not actually occur when shooting video in 4K, does it? I say this because most of the cropped modes (except for the smallest 7MP one) are all larger resolution that 4K.

Obviously, I'm just talking about digital pixel resolution here - I am not referring to how much of the 28mm view is used and do understand that one uses considerably less of the 28mm each time one punches in closer.

But there's no actual resolution loss, is there, when cropping and using 4K mode - until you hit the smallest box, i.e. 7MP, because that is smaller resolution than 4K...

The Q2’s sensor is 8368 x 5584 pixels, which is the size of a RAW image photograph it records.

When shooting 4K video it is capturing 3084 x 2160  pixel sized frames, which is not using the full sensor.

You will get the full resolution a 4K monitor can display.

8K video is 7680 x 4320 pixels, which is within the pixel size of the Q2’s sensor, but beyond the processing pathways and processor capability of the Q2. Currently none of the Leica mirrorless cameras are capturing 8K video.
