I will translate : DFD is crap but we will persist with brute force : faster read out and faster processing power.
eventually it will became good enough.

No plan to jump into phase detect bandwagon. Sad

I fully support Panasonic's idea.

What I'm worried about is that they still have to fill in gaps in the lineup; I hope they will decide to make a 200-600 zoom.

Next in line Panasonic should release the 50mm 1.8 this summer and the 24 and 35 1.8 in Autumn. These lenses were promised a year ago, quite a slow rollout and not the most exciting roadmap on the horizon.

Basically Sigma is saving the day with their high quality releases in a tight timeframe.

The system came out in March/April 2019, thus about two years back, and I believe Panasonic did a great job for the first and a half year. Long-lasting, amazing cameras and great lenses for both photography/videography such at 16-35 f/4, 24-105 f/4, 70-200 f/2.8, 70-300.

In the last months thought, appeared clear how much Panasonic slowed-down compared to the very appealing announcements of Sony and Canon.

They may present new cameras and new autofocus even the next year, not a problem for me, but a new updated roadmap is lacking as well as a speed-up in the presentation of the lenses, starting from the 1.8 primes that many (not me) are waiting.

Sigma is great and has lower prices  but I've had bad experiences with the built-quality and assistance in my country is even worse than Panasonic's one.

and Covid is Really Raging in Japan, so that could be the reason for delays.

That could be, but it doesn't seem to be delaying Canon, Nikon, Sony, Voigtlander, Sigma. I'd be surprised if Panasonic is the only Japanese company affected by Covid.

Maybe they are having some different production issues and they were forced to push the 1.8 lenses by a few months. But they should communicate it better, and present potential buyers with an updated lens roadmap. As it is now, despite what they say in the interview, from the outside it looks Panasonic is uncertain about the future, and customers may lose patience after a while.
