The camera looks to be in great condition and although I have yet to shoot with it, all the functions seem to work as they should. I did notice some dust specs on the lens. I was curious if anyone knew the best place to have this camera looked at or to have a CLA done. I live in CT, in the US. The camera holds a lot of sentimental value so sending it anywhere is risky. DAG Camera 2128 Vintage Drive Oregon WI 53575 USA Telephone 608-835-3342 dagcam@chorus.net He did a fantastic job fixing my IIIg earlier this year. He can be hard to get a hold of and it can take a couple of months. After he received my IIIg, I reached him on the phone and he very politely went over various options. In addition to CLA'ing my IIIg and 50mm collapsible Summicron, I had him replace the vulcanite covering and the eye piece. The IIIg works great and looks beautiful. Currently one of my M2's is at Youxin Ye 16 Fairview Road Canton, MA 02021 (781) 830-9141 (home, eve) Youxin's turn around time is apparently much quicker. He is very prompt with email status updates. He received my M2 5 days ago and was finished within 2 days except he is waiting for new covering to be able to finish it. Good luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, -Matt Cyr Hey Matt I would be more concered about getting a CLA (clean, lubricate, adjust) for the body, than the lens. It probably hasn't been serviced since it left the factory a few decades ago and the lubricants are dried up. The camera will still fire dry, but the shutter speeds may be off and the lack of lubricats is not a good thing. Kindermann in Canada used to be the Leica service center for Canada and the East coast of the USA. A few years ago they bought all of Leica Canada's LTM spare parts, when Leica stopped servicing LTM cameras. Gerry Smith does brilliant work with reasonable turn around times. A few years ago he brought my M4 back from the dead and got it back to me in about 4-5 weeks. Leica in New Jersey does excellent work on lenses. They have rebuilt three of mine and they are like new. DAG is also a top notch shop, but he's usually buried in work and you may not see the camera for a while. Also take a look at Ken Ruth and Sherry Krauter. dlove5 Posted August 28, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 28, 2007 Matt, I just received word from Youxin Ye that my M2 is on its way back to me. Pretty darn good turn around time - just over a week. We'll see what I think about the quality of the work. I also wouldn't worry too much about a lens CLA yet. Shoot some pictures first and see what you think. I have only sent one of my old lenses in for a CLA so far and that was more to fix a sticky focus and aperture than cleaning the lens. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
