Maybe it's because of my long term familiarity with Cine lenses but I do wish that more of my M rangefinder lenses had a longer throw, ( travel ), and I've been looking at several here this morning, ( it's cold and raining, what else is there to do? ). With both Leica and VC brands nearly all of them have only an arc of what I'd guess to be 5Âș between the 3 meter mark and infinity, ( small lenses even less ), those distances being within the common range where most photographs are taken but I'd guess the actual range of use is more like 3 to 8 meters or 8 meters to infinity. On a cine lens, ( I have a set of Zeiss SuperSpeed Primes that I checked this with this morning ), the throw is more like 20Âș or more for the same focus points which makes it much easier and precise to be able to hit a mark between 3 meters and infinity and inside that range too.

As an experiment using a PL to Leica M adapter I mounted one of the Zeiss PL SS lenses to a Leica M.......Ok with the adapter I couldn't use rangefinder focussing but with Live View on the M it was much surer to find focus points with the longer focus travel of the cine lenses.
