Advertisement Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Hi carstenw, Take a look here Leica M8 receives Editor's Choice Award. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted August 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2007 Yes, a worthy winner of this one horse race, still nice publicity for the camera.
Jamie Roberts Posted August 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 25, 2007 You gotta admit, though, it's interesting that they felt it needed to be included though; it would have been easy to make the editorial decision that a digital rangefinder is a quaint anachronism and leave it out entirely. I was pleasantly suprised when I saw that...

Guest Olof Posted August 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 25, 2007 Each brand got a price, thats very democratic and wont anger their customers (those who pay for the advertisings and those who buy the magazine). Aperture and Lightroom got a price, so now you knew what youd must buy. Both of them !
sean_reid Posted August 25, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jan's sig line reads: "There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person's lawful prey" John Ruskin And the corollary: "There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make just the same and sell for much more, and the people who consider status alone are that person's lawful prey" <G> I'm glad that the M8 was noticed for that article. Cheers, Sean

johnbuckley Posted August 25, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 25, 2007 There are three Leica products on their list - the WATE, the 4/3's lens, and the M8. Given Leica's size, this is a genuine accomplishment, especially given PopPhoto's audience being entirely directed away from such esoterica as Leica rangefinders and toward the uniformity of DSLRs. carstenw Posted August 25, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted August 25, 2007 It is almost the same in Tom Waits' song. Anyway, the SLR has one eye, and the rangefinder two!
Guest Olof Posted August 26, 2007 Share #12 Posted August 26, 2007 And the corollary: "There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make just the same and sell for much more, and the people who consider status alone are that person's lawful prey" noticed for that article. Cheers, Sean Leica ist definitly not a brand for status, because most people on the street wouldnt recognize a Leica as a Leica. Go with a Leica and may be they would ask you if its russian or if ist from your grandpa. They have no idea what you have... so its not for status. With the newest Nike shoes you would have more status at the street, as with a Leica. And I am sure that every photographer offered the M8 or the newest C, N etc. for free, would choose the M after he had worked one week with each system. guy Posted August 26, 2007 Share #13 Posted August 26, 2007 Under the blind the one-eyed is king! (This is the word to word translation of a german "Sprichwort", I am not sure if it´s the same in english) Very similar: in the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. I remember a short story that took that as its premise and then turned it on its head. But I can't remember who it was by. Feels like it could've been H G Wells or someone similar. Must check. There must be variations on the wording of this. Tom Waits (American) sings "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king", Singapore, Rain Dogs. carstenw Posted August 26, 2007 Author Share #15 Posted August 26, 2007 Under the blind the one-eyed is king! (This is the word to word translation of a german "Sprichwort", I am not sure if it´s the same in english) Btw, the German "unter" has (at least) two English translations. For spatial positions, it is indeed "under", but in this case, the proper translation is "among".
guy Posted August 26, 2007 Share #16 Posted August 26, 2007 Yep, it was H G Wells. The point of the story being that in the country of the blind, the blind are actually pretty damn capable, and the one-eyed man (or in this case, the fully-sighted man) had better watch out...
